It was a beautiful 4th of July weekend in Grand Marais- fireworks, hiking Artist’s Point, and glamping in a dome for a few highlights! 🙌

Off-trail snow depth: 28”
Trail Base: 6-8”

All trails groomed for skate and classic skiing. Snow in the last 24 hours: 7”. Snow in the last 7 days: 12”. Snow in the woods: 28”. Conditions are excellent.

Skate deck widened and reset system wide. West and East Overlook reset for skate and classic. Remaining classic tracks still good. Skiing is very good! Thanks for sharing the fun!

Our Ole dome is finished and ready to book on our website! It sleeps 2 comfortably on the beds and could fit a couple smaller people (or kids) on camp mats on the floor. Our Ole dome will be opening in 2 weeks for more glamping availability- just 5 minutes from downtown Grand Marais! We’ve swapped the queen bed for two twins so that there are more sleeping options for our guests- push them together to make a king bed if you want to get cozy❤️
Hike the Pincushion trails right out your front door pop over to Artists point in town, or head up the Gunflint to explore. We’d love to be the basecamp for your adventures!

A poem for those of you who love to get a little lost in the natural world❤️

Stand still.
The trees ahead and the bushes beside you Are not lost.
Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you,
If you leave it you may come back again, saying Here.

No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still.
The forest knows Where you are.

Friday, January 18

New Snow Last 24 hours: 0”
New Snow Last 7 Days: 4-6”
Packed base depth: 1-3”
Snow depth in woods: 11”

Pincushion Loop, North Advanced Loop, Hilfiker Hill, Morris Maze, Canyon Curves and the B & B Loop have been re-groomed for skating and classic styles. West Overlook has its skating lane re-set.

Conditions are good to very good, considering the low-snow conditions.

Another Pincushion trail grooming report from Friday, January 12:
Winter is here! We received about 4-5” of new snow up to now with more falling today.

Stadium, East and West Overlook and Upper and Lower Snowman and Pincushion Loop are fully groomed and tracked. Work continues on advanced trails.

Get out and enjoy the skiing before the polar vortex arrives over the weekend.
