The ‘Pinta’, a caravel, was launched in Brazil and was the first ship to sight land in the New World on October 12, 1492. Historians consider the caravel the Space Shuttle of the fifteenth century.
The Pinta tours as a ‘sailing museum’ for the purpose of educating the public and school children on the Portuguese ship used by Columbus and many early explorers to discover the world. While in port, the general public is invited to visit the ship for a walk-aboard, self-guided tour.
Self guided tours of the ship is available. $8 adults, $6 kids (5 - 16). 4 and under free. Crew members are on the ship to answer questions and to share some history. No reservations necessary. For more information on the Pinta go to Grand Rivers, Kentucky or Green Turtle Bay Resort
