Southwest Airlines Makes a Bold Move: Farewell to Free Checked Bags Starting May 28

It’s official—Southwest Airlines is shaking up its longstanding reputation for free checked bags.

Beginning May 28, passengers will now have to pay to check their luggage. That’s right, no more free bags, unless you’re an A-List loyalty member or holding a business class ticket.

But that's not all—this is just the start of more changes that could make Southwest look a lot more like the rest of the airlines. It’s certainly a far cry from what we’ve come to expect from the carrier.

Since the new investment management company took over in 2024, Southwest is slowly shedding its iconic trademarks. Soon, Southwest Airlines could just be another airline trying to earn your business.
