Experience vs no to little experience is common in a variety of activities we try throughout our life. From hitting baseballs, to hitting golf balls, dove hunting and even tying flies. Fly fishing is no different, the more you do something the better you become.

These two guys have turned the corner from being beginners to experienced fly anglers and it showed on their last trip with me this summer.

Dale and Jim had an excellent day on the water with me before the 100+ degree days settled in.

Looking forward to our next trip.

Matt and his son Jase are both brand new to fly fishing. Jase is 9 years old and enjoys fishing with conventional equipment. He received his first fly rod as a present and was looking forward to learning how to use it.

It didn’t take long for Jase to catch his first Bass on the fly. Matt his father also was getting the hang of it.

The Spotted Bass made for an active day. However, teaching a father and his son a new sport is what made my day!

David & Dennis have fished with me in the past. This trip we took my raft on a float and wade trip.

Largemouth Bass, Spotted Bass, Freshwater Drum, Sunfish and even a couple Redear Sunfish round out a very productive catching day.

David stayed with one Popper the entire day. While Dennis tried a variety of fly’s, both Topwater and Streamers.

Steve asked me are the fish biting? He said he sure would like to go fishing!

We started out the summer with descent air temperatures but the humidity was high. On this trip we took my raft on a float and wade trip.

As the temperatures start to get hot, it sure feels better standing in the water vs being on it for to long.

This guy needs no introduction, I had the pleasure of having Casey back in the raft a few weeks back. He brought along his fishing buddy Jordan.

Casey and I worked together (and fished) back in our days down in Austin TX while at Sportsmans Finest.

The Bass were on a chew and were feeding on baitfish. Topwater and baitfish streamers were the ticket.

The Llano Bug is a favorite fly pattern for the Texas Hill Country. However, it catches fish beyond just Central Texas. It is a favorite of mine for catching Bass and Sunfish in North Texas.

A yellow topwater fly that imitates both a Grasshopper or small Frog.

Hop and Sting Brewing Co. located in Grapevine TX, is a DFW award winning brewery that has a monthly tying night the second Wednesday of the month.

Come out tomorrow Wednesday June 10th at 6:30pm as I will be teaching the Llano Bug.

Nathan started fly fishing 6 months ago. Bass and Sunfish are the most common fish we catch in North TX on the fly. Occasionally an unexpected catch occurs.

This catfish not only hit the fly with determination, once hooked it took off up river not wanting to stop.

Nathan said that was the most
fun catch thus far with the fly rod.

Big or small it’s the feeling that matters!

Larry flew to Texas to spend time on the water with his son Garrett. Neither one of them had ever fly fished before. Larry had never fished before.

Larry is now hooked considering he caught his first fish ever! Not only did Larry learn how to cast, he had to learn what it was like to have a fish strike the fly.

He said he will be back!

Brian has “Louisiana Roots”. There is no doubt that fishing is in his DNA.

He has been a regular on the Springtime Sand Bass run.

He had 3 different species eat his fly that day.
