Let's talk about BOAT LAUNCH ETIQUETTE!

We had new sails made for our 1963 ODay Puffin by Mike Bartles, sailmaker extraordinaire in Boothbay Harbor. Here's Bill putting them on in the driveway just as a test before we derigged the sailboat and took it to the Windham boat launch, and there is where our story begins.

At the boat launch we encountered another boater with a large pick up truck and an infinitesimally small.............knowledge of boat launch etiquette. Here's how not to be that guy.

1) If you would like another boater to move their rig a little bit to give you more room for your big ol' pickup truck and party boat, ask politely. Let me know if you need some scripts, but don't start out by swaggering up with an attitude and acting demanding.

2) Please do not suggest that the other party put their rig into a space prohibited by the boat launch that is also a fraction of the size a car and trailer would even fit into.

3) After all that bluster, please at least know how to back up a trailer.

Vintage photo of Bunny Emery, sent to me this morning by her granddaughter, Wendy Phillips. They rented Sunset Haven for many summers from the previous owners, the Proctor family. I was SO delighted to receive this photo! We truly love that we are able to share this magical place with all of you and to be able to look into its past every time someone shares a photo like this.
