35 years ago today, The Cardinal first appeared to the general public in Northern Michigan in a shopping guide, Northern Star to around 20,000 readers. (Originally I created the character for the student newspaper at Concordia University Ann Arbor in Nov. 1978 and it ran for 3 years there.) It has been cited as the longest running Christan superhero strip in the U.S. The Cardinal has continued to appear to the general public in print or online since March 4, 1990. Can't believe it has been 35 years already! It is like the blink of an eye. Thank God for the many blessings it has produced!!!

Kurt Kolka, from Grayling, has written a powerful fiction book about bullying based on his own experiences. The book tells of Jan's experiences as he goes through school. Even his father calls him a sissy which has not helped at all. But Jan meets an unexpected mentor who helps him through this time. This is a good story, not only for teens, but for parents on how to recognize when a child is being bullied. You can find the book here at Family Bookshelf.
