Hidden in the foothills of the Little Snowy Mountains, the Bear Gulch Pictographs are home to an estimated 4,000-5,000 Plains Indian pictographs and petroglyphs. This site offers a rare glimpse into centuries of history. Some archaeologists believe the rock art may have been created by individuals recording visions experienced during vision quests between 1000 AD and 1850 AD.

Step into a century of movie entertainment history, all within about an hour's drive!

The Orpheum Theatre in Conrad first opened in 1918, when silent films were accompanied by a live orchestra.

In Shelby, the Roxy Theatre has been a Main Street gathering place since 1936 and is now enjoying a community-led revival.

Down the road in Choteau, the Roxy Theatre (same name, different town) opened on July 4, 1946, as one of the most modern movie houses in Montana, and continues welcoming audiences nearly 80 years later.

Each theater has survived changing times thanks to the communities that refused to let the lights go out! Today, all three have still have shows and events that you can see for yourself!

These three make for a great little road trip, but they're just a few of the historic theaters that help makeup Central Montana's story
