Ride Report from the Kokopelli RiP N Dip!!
The riding was absolutely amazing. We camped near the Dewey Bridge and the Dolores River. If you haven't explored this area, you're in for a real treat when you do!! This area is surrounded by overlook routes that can be accessed easily and are great supplements to the other longer riding you're planning. Heading SE you'll cross the Dolores River and have access to seemingly endless riding in the Rim Rocker direction. Heading SW you can ride the Kokopelli, Onion Creek, Shura, Top of the World and head all the way, 60 mi into Moab. We rode into Moab 1 day and after overcoming a flat and late start with a locked motor on a bike, we made it to Moab and enjoyed a town completely busting at the seems with activity, people and Hot Rods!! Heading NW you can start on the Kokopelli Trail and divert more Westward and have endless canyon riding with sand, slick rock and 2 tracks for as far as you can see! This directions lets you explore The Highlands, Poison Strip, Fish Seep Draw etc. and Finally if you head NE you can ride all the way to Fruita via the Kokopelli or some variety of it.
Day 1 - I was solo and rode "Top of the World" and the Kokopelli to the top of Rose Garden Hill. This was a challenging day of riding!!
Day 2 - The support vehicle crew showed up and guide Caitlyn Gomez. Caitlyn and I decided to jump in the SXS and go back to Top of the World, so these guys could experience it. Later in the afternoon Short joined us and we explored some a canyon on the Dolores River. We grilled, had some drinks at camp and really enjoyed ourselves.
Day 3 - Kokopelli Trail day. This was going to be a 10 hr day on the bikes. We were up early, bikes prepped, gear loaded and warming the bikes. When suddenly our 390 Adventure R with 600 miles seized. Plans changed and that rider opted to ride in the SXS which meant doing Rose Garden Hill. Michael Short and I took the Onion Creek route and met the crew at the bottom of the hill. We carried on our way towards Moab. Along the way I experienced a flat tire. This took about 2hrs out of our day all said and done. We arrived in Moab in good order and had burgers and onion rings!!
Day 4 - A rainy but good day. We explored more along the Dolores River and headed NE on the Kokopelli. Absolutely an outstanding trip!! I appreciate Michael Short coming out and trusting me with route selection and knowledge of the area!! On Day 4 Michael took a rest day and enjoyed riding in he SXS on some technical slick rock. Awesome times!!
