In 1954, the U.S. government terminated the Menominee Tribe of Wisconsin — ending federal recognition and attempting to dismantle tribal sovereignty through a policy known as “termination.”

But the Menominee people refused to disappear.

Families, activists, elders, and community leaders organized for years against land sales, political erasure, and the loss of treaty protections. Their resistance became one of the most important Indigenous sovereignty movements of the 20th century.

On May 27, 1968, the United States Supreme Court ruled that the Menominee Tribe’s hunting and fishing rights had never legally been removed.

Five years later, in 1973, federal recognition of the Menominee Tribe was officially restored.

Their nation survived.
Their rights survived.
Their people are still here.

And In This Corner…Lorenz Jordan!!!!!!

Lorenz, a member of the Oneida Nation, will be headlining the main event during Brawl In The Backwoods, a professional boxing event Saturday, June 6, 2026, at Ho-Chunk Gaming Wittenburg. The event is promoted by Native American 5X World Champ, Virgil Hill.

Jordan, who is currently in training in Albany, New York, expresses his passion and inspiration for the sweet science of boxing and acknowledges his support system that enabled him to develop and compete in such a prestigious event.

“I am grateful and blessed that God continues to allow me the ability to pursue my dream. Through my journey, I have grown so much not just physically, but mentally. I am truly thankful for this opportunity and am excited to put on a great performance in front of my family and friends. I have always had a passion for boxing from a young age. As a child I would visit the boxing gym with my dad as he would work out, hear his stories, and just enjoyed watching fights with my dad. I would like to acknowledge and thank my dad (Larry Jordan) and my coaches (Ty Goldston and Jerrick Jones from Albany, New York) for preparing me for this next level,” says Lorenz.
