This is shaping up to be an exciting year for the Rio Grande Valley, Texas. A few rarities from south of the border are already trickling into Texas, with reports of Northern Jacana, Roadside Hawk, and Rose-throated Becard. The long-staying Mottled Owl and Brown Jays also continue. The majority of rarities usually arrive during November/December and often stay until spring, giving us excellent chances to catch up with them during our January Tour. During past tours, we have seen Bat Falcon, Social Flycatcher, Fork-tailed Flycatcher, Golden-crowned Warbler, Rose-throated Becard, Blue Bunting, and Crimson-collared Grosbeak. We always make a special effort to find any rarities present during our tour. We have limited space available. One of the biggest highlights of our 2026 Guyana was this majestic Harpy Eagle perched near an active nest. We enjoyed endless views of this impressive raptor for as long as we wanted while a young Harpy Eagle rested in the nest nearby. Join us next year.

It took some patience, quite a bit of walking, careful listening, and some detective work to find out where the ants were moving, but in the end we had a Rufous-winged Ground-Cuckoo relax and preen for 10 minutes right in front of our group. Guyana October 2026
