FULL MOON RISING THROUGH DELICATE ARCH

A breathtaking desert scene where a golden full Moon rises perfectly inside the natural opening of Delicate Arch while a crowd watches from the red-rock slope below.

This effect comes from careful moonrise alignment. When the Moon is low near the horizon, it can look larger and warmer because its light passes through more atmosphere, picking up orange and golden tones. The arch acts like a natural frame, turning the moonrise into a perfectly timed desert window.

The people add scale and make the moment feel even more powerful .. ancient sandstone, a glowing Moon, and dozens of viewers gathered for the same rare view.

A scene like this fits Arches National Park in Utah, desert viewpoints, and red-rock landscapes where the Moon, horizon, and natural stone formations can line up beautifully at dusk.

The comfiest beds ever!

Arches National Park has an awful lot of arches (over 2,000!) but other Southeast Utah parks have some, too. Canyonlands National Park contains over 300 natural stone arches, which would be downright impressive if we weren't so close by. Natural Bridges National Monument only has three, but they're a very special type of arch called a natural bridge, which straddles a waterway and was likely formed by water's motion. Kachina Bridge, shown here, soars above those who hike down into the canyon.
