The walls close at sunset. You'll walk up at nine.

Every visitor to Dubrovnik walks the walls in a slow queue with four thousand other people. Very few have stood on them in the dark, with the old town lit below and one table laid on the stone. This takes a permit, the city’s agreement and a relationship built over years, which is the entire reason it cannot be booked on a random online site.

Is Alaska on your bucket list, but you’re not sure of the best way to see it? Let me help.

Alaska cruises and cruise tours are so popular because they let you see the best of Alaska from land and sea, with the comfort of your cruise ship or comfortable lodge.

What you need to know?

Alaska Cruise: can be a roundtrip cruise from Vancouver or Seattle, often going through the Inside Passage. Or a one way cruise from Vancouver or Seattle to Anchorage (or the reverse).

Why choose roundtrip? It’s convenient, and booking air may be easier/cheaper.

Why choose One Way? One way cruises are able to take you on more scenic cruising days, often to Glacier National Park. These are also the cruises that are combinable with a land portion for a cruise tour.

Get some time to explore Denali, Fairbanks, and/or Anchorage. Take the train to lodges in stunning destinations you won’t see on a cruise alone.

It’s National Waffle Day!

If you know me, you know that Expedition Everest at Disney’s Animal Kingdom is one of my favorite attractions. I’ve done as many as 9 rides in a row in the single rider queue (sometimes sneaking past my waiting family members to do so 😅).

I was lucky enough to ride back in 2007 and experience the original “A mode” yeti who would dramatically lunge and swipe at your vehicle as you passed. It was truly terrifying. It felt like she missed you by inches.

Shortly after that the yeti went to permanent “B mode.” No longer moving but staying static and being illuminated by strobe lighting to simulate movement, thus earning the nickname “Disco Yeti.” It’s still cool but not the same and so disappointing that one of the most advanced animatronics ever made has been still for almost 2 decades.

It was so heartbreaking to me, I even have a “Fix me” shirt with Disco Yeti (cast members loved this shirt!). I had completely given up. When they announced Tropical Americas and did not announce fixing my girl Betty (the yeti), I really thought it was over. It’s just a second of the ride, most guests have no idea there was ever an “A mode” yeti, and bottom line - it would be incredibly costly to fix.

But Disney surprised me by announcing that they will FIX THE YETI. Someday, after probably a long refurb, my favorite attraction will be whole again. It won’t be soon. But we have waited 18 years for this!

I can be patient. 😬

Should I wear my Disco Yeti shirt this fall when we return and I try to break my record and see if I can get 10 rides in a row? Or will my son finally agree to ride and we’ll skip single rider and go together?

There are so many more important things in the world but this brings me joy.
