Happy Earth Month! 🌎

As we recognize Earth Day, did you know there are 14 national parks and protected sites in North Carolina? It’s a great reminder of the natural beauty we’re fortunate to have and the importance of preserving it.

All month long, we celebrate the role we each play in supporting sustainable, thriving communities. From smart growth and responsible development to energy-efficient homes and walkable neighborhoods, real estate has a meaningful impact on the world around us.

Let’s keep making choices—big and small—that help protect our planet for generations to come.

Did you know? North Carolina has 14 National Park Service sites? They range from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the west to key National Military Sites in the Piedmont to two National Seashores on the coast. These parks showcase and preserve the state’s natural, historical and cultural spaces.

Here are some things you might not know about North Carolina’s national parks:

○ Great Smoky Mountains National Park: The mountains here are considered to be between 200-300 million years old.

○ Appalachian Trail: You can become a ‘Citizen Scientist’ through the A.T. Seasons Project and help collect data on flowering plants and migration patterns.

○ Guilford Courthouse National Military Site: To experience nature and history up close, walk or drive the 2.25-mile loop Tour Road. Look for the painted logos on the road that help remind you that walkers/hikers stay on the left and bikers/drivers keep right.

○ Cape Hatteras National Seashore: More than 350 bird species live here. The seashore is part of the Atlantic Flyway migration route.
