You’ve probably driven past it—but do you know the story of the Iron Horse? 🐎

Created in 1954, the massive steel sculpture originally stood on UGA’s campus, where students disliked it so much that pranks and protests eventually led to its removal.

In 1959, it found a new home in a Greene County pasture along Highway 15. Over the decades, the once-controversial sculpture became a beloved local landmark and UGA tradition.

From campus outcast to roadside icon—that’s more than 70 years of Georgia history standing right here in Greene County.
