We want say a big THANK YOU to all the families who used their Sunflower Summer tickets to visit the Big Well Museum this season. We loved seeing so many kids and families walk through our doors, climb down into the Well, discover the Space Wanderer, explore our exhibits, and make Greensburg part of their summer adventures.

Programs like Sunflower Summer give Kansas families a chance to get out, explore their own state, and discover places they may have never visited before. We're so glad we got to be one of those places for so many of you. 🌻

Whether this summer brought you to the Big Well for the very first time or gave you a reason to come back, thank you for spending part of it with us!

We hope you made some great memories along the way. 💛

Some of the world's rarest treasures are buried underground, but they fell from outer space.

Pallasite meteorites are among the rarest and most beautiful meteorites ever discovered. Formed at the boundary between the metallic core and rocky mantle of an ancient asteroid, they're often called the "gemstones of the cosmos" because of the striking olivine crystals suspended within an iron-nickel matrix.

Here's an incredible Kansas connection...

The largest and second-largest pallasite meteorites ever discovered were both found right here in Kiowa County, Kansas, as part of the famous Brenham Meteorite Strewn Field.

Over the years, Brenham meteorites have found their way into private and public collections around the world—including the Smithsonian. But one of the most impressive examples, the Space Wanderer, remains right here at the Big Well Museum.

Weighing 1,000 pounds, it's one of the largest pallasites on public display anywhere in the world and a remarkable reminder that Kiowa County is home to one of the most significant meteorite discoveries in history.

It's not every day you can stand just a few feet away from a piece of an ancient asteroid.
