Today, our community gathered in Downtown Greenville to mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, a day we will never forget and a day that forever changed our nation.
Our community came together to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, honor the first responders who answered the call, and recognize the courage, sacrifice, and service that followed in the days and years after 9/11.
We extend our sincere appreciation to everyone who helped make today’s memorial ceremony possible and to those who participated in this special remembrance.
Thank you to Greenville Police Chief Darrin Harvey, Greenville Fire Chief Lee Williams, Greenville Mayor Ed DeArmond, Muhlenberg County Judge Executive Mack McGehee, State Senator Craig Richardson, State Representative Rebecca Raymer, Central City Mayor Malcom West, and Pastor Curtis McGehee for speaking today and joining us in honoring this important anniversary.
A special thank you to the MCHS JROTC for the Presentation of Colors; Joel Watson for the playing of Taps; the Green River Firefighters Association Honor Guard for the solemn placement of the memorial wreath; Sight and Sound Electronics and Wendell Miller for providing sound for the ceremony; the Greenville Police and Fire Departments for their assistance with setup and with preparing and cleaning the memorial, and the Wendall H. Ford WOC’S who helped alongside the MCHS JROTC to install the flag display located at the summer house.
We are also deeply grateful to the first responders who attended today, as well as the many volunteers who gave their time to help make this remembrance possible.
Most importantly, we remember those whose lives were lost on September 11, 2001, the families who continue to carry their memory, and the first responders, service members, and countless others whose lives were forever changed by that day.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember.
