Thank you all for the most incredible four and half years, but for now we must say “see you later.” As of Dec. 22, 2024 we are closed.

This is Joe, the owner & founder of Modal Hostel & Coffee. This adventure has taught me several things, and since you all have been along for the ride I want to share with you on this final day of operations what lessons I’m taking with me:

1. NEVER GIVE UP! The process of small business development is not for the faint of heart and will teste ever fiber of your being. I may be closing this chapter, but my passion for creating beautiful, smart, impactful and unique businesses has just begun.
2. TRUST THE PROCESS. My vision came to life in the most unique and unexpected way, but was far better than I ever could have imagined. I’m grateful that the community around me helped shape what Modal became & how it functioned.
3. STAY POSITIVE. Yesterday (24 hours before closing) I was left a voicemail on our staff phone by a potential customer chewing us out for charging $45/night and they proceeded to curse, use homophobic slurs, and yell “F #%* you!” in conclusion….This process has been nothing but challenge after challenge, but I have come to realize that positivity is a choice more often than a feeling. So choose it daily.

“Thank you” doesn’t feel sufficient, but I have no other way of expressing the impact each of you have had on Modal’s successes.

As we look to the next chapter, my wish is that you have felt inspired, seen, heard, and loved by our humble hostel. 🫶🏻

COFFEE OFFICIALLY CLOSING NOV 1, 2024 - We close the cafe officially at close of business on Thursday, Oct. 31st after our Halloween party. Come grab your goodbye lattes while you can 🫶🏻 OPEN 8am-8pm thru Thursday.

Don’t you dare disappoint, babe!

Afterward, shimmy over to 💃🕺🏻for their Night Market (6-9PM) and the grand Drag Ball hosted by the fabulous 👯‍♀️ (9-12). Because if you’re not spending your evening with your fam of ghouls, gals, and glittery pals, what are you even doing?” 💀👻🎃

The .gvl and are teaming up to raise $10,000 to provide crisis lodging for individuals in need after the devastation of Hurricane Helene. 💔 Thanks to our friend’s at GE Pride Alliance, we’ll have FREE Pizza 🍕 while supplies last, and Modal will be offering special drink prices on beer 🍺, wine 🍷, coffee ☕️, and tea 🫖. This is one of the LAST q***r nights, so please come out and enjoy spending time with your local 🏳️‍🌈 community!

The storm has left many without homes or shelter. We believe that everyone deserves a safe place to stay, especially during times of crisis. Your donation can make a real impact, helping us offer temporary lodging to those most vulnerable.

MODAL COFFEE CLOSING OCTOBER 31

We were optimistic and have worked hard to try to make decisions that would ease the transition, but with the impact of Helene we are speeding up the closure of the cafe to October 31. Our hearts are with ALL of those who have been impacted and by no means want to make this about us, but we need to be transparent about this change for our community.

All coffee shop operations will cease on October 31 but the hostel will continue to operate through December. We will still close in January to renovate and make updates to reopen in March as Modal Guesthouse.

In the mean time, we are working with the Q***r Wellness Center and other partners to focus our efforts on using Modal as a resource for lodging for those still impacted by Helene. (Stay tuned as we provide more info about how you can support this initiative!)

We will host q***r nights every Thursday through the rest of October, with our Halloween Event on Oct 31 as our final Modal party. You won’t want to miss it! 👻🎃

We love you and appreciate our community greatly, this is just a necessary step to keep Modal alive for the foreseeable future. And who knows, you might just see Modal Coffee again some day 👀😘
