27 MARCH 1989 ~

On this day ~ 36 years ago ~ Letitia & Keith Dayer signed up for a dream. It was March 27th when we purchased this historic property in Greenwich, New York, Bassett House on Hudson (ciirca 1785). Because the house was not a liveable space, no bank would grant a mortgage, but we were able to get a "construction loan" which enabled us to undertake the restoration of this humble "center-chimney cape" home built by the Bassett family after the Revolutionary War. They moved from Cape Cod (Chilmark on Martha's Vineyard) to the "frontier" ~ lands along the Hudson River ~ because they were encouraged by land grants that were made available to Yankee patriots.

After Letitia and Keith signed the papers at the bank in Salem, we were joined by our good friends, Randy Squires and Mark Urbaetis, on the front lawn of Bassett House to celebrate the occasion with a light lunch and a champagne toast! Hundreds of white geese gathered in Bassett's Cove that day to welcome us! Mark & Randy had located this property ...and declared "if you buy it, we will help you restore it!" The rest ....as they say ...is history!

Yes, it was a crazy dream to even consider ...but we were foolishly inspired to sign a contract ...with history ...and posterity! Now more than three decades later, I can say... it's been a bumpy road, full of ups and downs and colorful surprises ... BUT yes, it's all been worth it ...truly a dream fulfilled!!!

What is included ~ The sunny art studio includes wifi, theater projection video system, and audio hi-fi. Also a large wrap-around deck overlooking Bassett's Cove and the Hudson River. Access to the two acres populated with many trees, a walkable peninsula, a seven circuit labyrinth, bonfire pit, and more.

"BILLY ELLIOT" ~ one of the greatest films you'll ever experience about the heart and soul of ART ...and why the human spirit cannot survive without IT! When I saw "BILLY ELLIOT" live on Broadway in 2009, it touched my soul, moving me to tears, just like Billy's father ...in the scene depicted here from the 2001 film by the same name.

In the film, Billy was played wonderfully by 14 year old Jamie Bell, who won the BAFTA award for Leading Actor in 2001. If you haven't seen the film, you must find it to watch on your streaming service, I promise, you will not be disappointed.
