WHITFIELD WEDNESDAY

Guilford has an amazing number of historic buildings, including several that were constructed in the 1600s. This postcard from about 1960 shows 4 of these houses:

Hyland House (museum) – 84 Boston Street
Henry Whitfield House (museum) – 248 Old Whitfield Street
Comfort Starr House (private home) – 138 State Street
Acadian House (private home) – 37 Union Street

ACTIVITIES:

1) Take a road trip to search for these historic houses and see them in person. NOTE: Please respect private property.

2) Answer these questions:

a. Which was the home of Guilford’s first minister?

b. Which was the home of a tailor whose name reflected a common practice of naming children for virtues or qualities their parents wanted to see in them?

c. Which was the home of a slave named Candace?

d. Which was the home of refugees from Canada during the French & Indian War?

3) Share this post – thank you!
