TWO MARINE SCIENTISTS STARTED THIS FORT MORGAN OYSTER FARM.

Navy Cove Oysters was founded in 2011 by Dr. John Supan and Dr. Charles Wilson, whose friendship and research experience became the foundation for a seafood business.

Eric Bradley joined the partnership in 2016, bringing experience from growing up on a Louisiana crawfish farm.

Their Alabama operation sits along the northern shore of the Fort Morgan peninsula, in southern Mobile Bay.

Here, tidal exchanges connect the growing waters with the nearby Gulf.

The farming process begins with small hatchery oysters. As they grow, the oysters move into floating cages in Navy Cove.

The company raises oysters for the half shell market and identifies a distinctive stripe across their shells among their recognizable features.

This is another part of Fort Morgan’s coastal economy: marine researchers applying their knowledge to a working farm whose crop grows in cages suspended in the bay’s tidal waters.

Looks like we dodged the Hurricane bullet!😅Getting mostly positive reports about the Fort Morgan/Gulf Shores area with minimal damage. We never lost power at A View With A Room and the bridges are opening back up today. Praying for our neighbors to the East of us in Pensacola, Navarre, Fort Walton, as well as anyone in the path of the Hurricane winds and rain🙏🙏🙏Thank you again to so many guests, friends, and family that reached out to us with love and concern! Y’all know how much we do not like the “H” word after Hurricane Sally!😝

𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰 & 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝗨𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲

At 7 a.m., the Gulf Shores curfew will expire. Following a thorough assessment, public safety crews have determined that conditions on the roadways and bridges are safe for travel. The W.C. Holmes Bridge (Hwy. 59) and the Alabama 161 South Bridge (Alabama Beaches Parkway) will open to traffic at 7 a.m.

Motorists are encouraged to exercise caution while traveling, as crews may still be working in some areas and conditions can change. Any intersection with a flashing traffic signal should be treated as a four-way stop. Drivers should come to a complete stop, yield the right-of-way as appropriate, and proceed with caution.

Unfortunately, the worst case scenario is unfolding with Isaias on the verge of becoming a major hurricane this morning. The NHC forecast now calls for Isaias to become an extremely dangerous Category 3 hurricane prior to landfall. You should be preparing for a Category higher. A major hurricane at landfall means this storm will rival Fredrick, Opal, Ivan, and Dennis. This is a life-threatening situation for those on the coast of Alabama & the Florida Panhandle. Please heed evacuation orders from officials if you’re in the path of this storm.
