For those local to us, flights from Des Moines Iowa to Gulf Shores starting in October!

Allegiant just announced an additional 2 destination cities for Gulf Shores International Airport!!!

The new routes to Gulf Shores International Airport (GUF) in include:

Appleton, Wisconsin via Appleton International Airport (ATW) – beginning October 2, 2025 with one-way fares as low as $59.*

Des Moines, Iowa via Des Moines International Airport (DSM) – beginning October 3, 2025 with one-way fares as low as $59.*

The 1st Allegiant flight will arrive in Gulf Shores on Wednesday, May 21st!

We will share more later today on the 1st flight arriving in town! So excited for the airport to have commercial flights available.

If you are planning to go watch the Blue Angels practice at the naval base, REAL IDs will be required after May 7th!

Implementation of the REAL ID Act begins May 7, 2025. That day, and any day after that, anyone 18 years and older who plans to visit certain Federal facilities or fly domestically will need a REAL ID or a valid U.S. passport to enter U.S. military bases or board federally regulated commercial aircraft.

While we cannot accommodate pets due to HOA policies, Gulf Shores beaches also maintain a pet-free policy. However, you can find pet-friendly beaches and accommodations in Ft. Morgan, just a short drive away!

Did you know the 10 foot cross on Pensacola Beach commemorates the first Christian mass held in the United States when the first Spaniards arrived.

The Knights of Columbus first placed it on the north side of Fort Pickens Road in 1959 as part of the quadricentennial celebration of Don Tristan de Luna’s landing in Pensacola, establishing America’s first European settlement. Some time later, the cross was moved to its current home on the south side of Fort Pickens Road.

The cross has stood firm through many bouts with Mother Nature, including, most recently, Hurricane Ivan, which flattened most gulf-front dunes for several miles east and west. ✝️

🙏So far, there is no scientific explanation as to why the dune and the cross have been spared so many times. According to several residents, the answer will never come from science but instead can be found from within.🐑
