๐Ÿ›ซ โœˆ๏ธ ๐Ÿ›ฌ Since the first plane hit the ground about four months ago, Gulf Shores International Airport (GUF/JKA) has had over 40,000 travelers to date, making the airportโ€™s first season a โ€œresounding success.โ€

Jesse Fosnaugh, GUF airport director, said the airport, which started flying commercial routes this spring, saw an average load factor โ€” an aviation term for boarded passengers divided by total seats โ€” of 70% across all flights. This was โ€œremarkableโ€ given GUF is a new commercial airport that only had six destinations in its first season.

A recent Aviation Week Network article on GUFโ€™s success stated it has become Alabamaโ€™s third-busiest airport.

The City of Gulf Shores would like to remind all residents and guests of the following road closures and traffic flow modifications related to the Sand In My Boots Music Festival:

๐—ง๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜†, ๐— ๐—ฎ๐˜† ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฏ:
โ€ข Hwy 59 south of W. 1st Ave. and Hwy 182/Beach Blvd between W. 2nd St. and E. 3rd St. will be closed to all vehicular/pedestrian traffic.

- Access to West Beach: Available through Windmill Ridge Rd (preferred), West 2nd Ave. to West 1st St. and West 1st Ave.

- Access to Orange Beach: Available through the Gulf State Park, Canal Rd., or E 1st Ave.

โ€ข Traffic flow on W. 1st Ave. to W. 1st St. and E. 1st Ave. to E. 4th Ave. will be modified to a one-way-only route to help accommodate heavy pedestrian traffic.

- The public is advised to utilize the traffic flow map and directional signage posted in these areas, indicating proper traffic flow during this time.

โ€ข E. Beach Blvd from E. 2nd St. to E. 3rd St. will be local traffic only.

This is a GREAT REMINDER to ALWAYS fill in your holes and knock down your castles before leaving the beach!!! Turtles canโ€™t go backwards!! They can go forward and run into things that will kill them like those sandcastles or fall into holes while trying to nest. PLEASE fill in your holes and knock down those castle. This happened in Navarre Beach and thank goodness this turtle was saved โ˜บ๏ธ
