Hello Friends of North Star Sailing Charters. Big news for the future but first I am happy (and a bit sad) to announce that I have sold Kashmir. Kashmir was a fantastic boat that gave me...and hopefully many of you...many great memories. They say the happiest days in a sailor's life is the day they buy a boat and they day they sell their boat. But to be honest I am bit melancholy over having to say "Good Bye" to Kashmir. But the new owners are excited and ready to take Kashmir on many new adventures.

But this is not the end of North Star Sailing Charters. Just a little upgrade as I am in the process of buying a newer & bigger boat. No details today but once I have the new boat in my possession I will make another post.

Due the lengthy buying process and the fact that the boat I am buying is in Maryland, North Star Sailing Charters will be temporarily closed. I hope to have the newer/bigger boat back in Mississippi and back in Charter service by mid-November.

Chad bought a gift certificate for a sailing charter back in May and gave it to Gina for her Birthday. Unfortunately there were some scheduling and availability issues between then and now so we couldn't get this trip booked earlier. But yesterday was the day. And they were joined by their friends Cheryl & Scott. They drove over from Slidell yesterday afternoon for some late Summer sailing (yes, believe it or not, Fall is just a couple of days away). The weather was just about perfect. Quite warm but we had a perfect charter sailing breeze to go along with the very blue skies. And as a bonus we found a bunch of playful dolphins. We also sailed into the big ship port to see the ship and found a couple of drones being operated. Great day on the water and HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Gina (a few months late)!

Happy Birthday to Brandon!!! D'aliyah set up a sunset sailing charter to celebrate Brandon's birthday. They were joined by their friends Jihad, Earnest, Tailia and Khi and they are all from New Orleans. The weather was very nice with light winds and smooth seas. We did have a few dolphins but I am not sure if any of them actually saw the dolphins. But we had a nice sunset for some pictures. Mostly it was just a peaceful and relaxing way to celebrate a birthday out on the water with friends.

Out sailing today with Tim from the Jackson area. He has sailed withe me many times as he is preparing to travel down to the Caribbean for a charter boat vacation and he wants to get in some practice on bigger boats. He is always looking for good winds for his sailing trips. We had that today. But today was also an "airdrop training" day for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary here in Gulfport. I am a member of the local flotilla and frequently I go out with the crew on the flotilla boat to recover the items that the US Coast Guard airdrops during its training missions. But since I couldn't go out with the US Coast Guard today I followed them out to the drop zone and then filmed the plane making drops. It made a low pass over us. Very cool!

Rebecca, from Ocean Springs, scheduled a sunset charter with me almost a month ago to celebrate her husband, Mike's, birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE!!!! They were joined by their son Forrest and his significant other, Lauren and their other son Austin and his significant other Caitlin. The weather was very nice and there was a good breeze to keep the temperature under control and that kept us moving pretty nice. They brought enough food to last us all the way to Cuba. And I appreciated how the desert came out first!!! We eventually found several dolphins and everyone was very excited. And we finished off the trip with a fantastic sunset. The colors and textures were amazing. Lots of laughs and good times with a really nice family!

Kip gave me a call yesterday morning asking about taking the family out to see some dolphins. I told him that the sunset charter was available and that we "normally" see dolphins. He talked it over with the family and called me back...it was on. So he was joined by Lucy along with daughters Aubrey & Storey and their son Mason as well as with Lucy's Mom Cathy. They were visiting the Mississippi Gulf Coast from Warren, AR. Quite warm (okay very hot) in the marina but once we got out on the Mississippi Sound it was definitely better. And within 2 minutes we had about 10 dolphins swimming all around us. LOTS of smiling faces all over the boat!!! We had some great sailing. All of the kids took a turn at the wheel and sitting up in the back seats. Then we sailed into the ship port to take a look at the Chiquita banana ship. And as we headed back into the harbor we saw some really nice colors in the sky from the very colorful sunset!

My second trip yesterday was a repeat charter (maybe third time?) with Brenda & John from the Jackson, MS area. They come down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to celebrate their Anniversary. This year was #40! CONGRATULATIONS! The winds were so light we couldn't even sail for about the first 30 minutes. But that lack of wind was more than made up for by all the dolphins that we found and that swam around us for a while. The winds did fill in and we had some very nice sailing. Plus some ch*****ne to celebrate the anniversary. We finished off the charter with a nice sunset. Plenty of clouds to add color and texture but yet not block too much of the view. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Michelle & Dwayne from the Lafayette, LA area were scheduled to sail with me on Friday but we had to postpone due to weather. But it was only a 24-hour postponement and we were able to get out on the water yesterday afternoon. Beautiful blue skies and mild winds. Slow sailing but smooth seas. We sailed around for about 90 minutes before we finally found some dolphins. Better late than never. And after about 30 minutes of dolphins swimming around us we finally had to head back to the harbor. Very peaceful & relaxing but I think that is exactly what they wanted.

The weather yesterday was not very nice in the morning and the early afternoon. Had to reschedule my early charter. But the clouds thinned out and the rain ended so I was able to get Kyla & James along with Josie & Charlie out for the sunset charter. They were celebrating Kyla's birthday and she had wish to go sailing. And Josie did a Summer Camp with the MS Aquarium and was really hoping to see some dolphins. Check and check. The winds were light and the seas were very smooth. We found LOTS of dolphins...very cool. And we had birthday cupcakes...even one for the Captain. Charlie found the horn button and blew the horn a bunch (I lost count after about the first dozen times). And then he pretended to hit the horn on the center of the steering wheel and yell "BEEP" really loud (which was necessary becuase there is no horn in the center of my steering wheel). Kyla had a great time and Josie saw a bunch of dolphins. Hopefully great memories! Definitely a great family!

And my third charter yesterday was with Julie & Tyler from Biloxi. They recently got engaged and Julie wanted to get some "engagement photos" on a sailboat. They brought along their friend Justin who is a professional photographer. The weather was a bit breezy by this time and the seas were a bit rolly. We discussed the option of giving it a try or just rescheduling for a better day. We decided to give it a try. But once we got out of the harbor we realized it just wasn't going to work. So we came back in and they will reschedule for hopefully a much nicer day. So no pictures yet...stay tuned.
