My second trip yesterday was a repeat charter (maybe third time?) with Brenda & John from the Jackson, MS area. They come down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to celebrate their Anniversary. This year was #40! CONGRATULATIONS! The winds were so light we couldn't even sail for about the first 30 minutes. But that lack of wind was more than made up for by all the dolphins that we found and that swam around us for a while. The winds did fill in and we had some very nice sailing. Plus some champagne to celebrate the anniversary. We finished off the charter with a nice sunset. Plenty of clouds to add color and texture but yet not block too much of the view. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!

Michelle & Dwayne from the Lafayette, LA area were scheduled to sail with me on Friday but we had to postpone due to weather. But it was only a 24-hour postponement and we were able to get out on the water yesterday afternoon. Beautiful blue skies and mild winds. Slow sailing but smooth seas. We sailed around for about 90 minutes before we finally found some dolphins. Better late than never. And after about 30 minutes of dolphins swimming around us we finally had to head back to the harbor. Very peaceful & relaxing but I think that is exactly what they wanted.

The weather yesterday was not very nice in the morning and the early afternoon. Had to reschedule my early charter. But the clouds thinned out and the rain ended so I was able to get Kyla & James along with Josie & Charlie out for the sunset charter. They were celebrating Kyla's birthday and she had wish to go sailing. And Josie did a Summer Camp with the MS Aquarium and was really hoping to see some dolphins. Check and check. The winds were light and the seas were very smooth. We found LOTS of dolphins...very cool. And we had birthday cupcakes...even one for the Captain. Charlie found the horn button and blew the horn a bunch (I lost count after about the first dozen times). And then he pretended to hit the horn on the center of the steering wheel and yell "BEEP" really loud (which was necessary becuase there is no horn in the center of my steering wheel). Kyla had a great time and Josie saw a bunch of dolphins. Hopefully great memories! Definitely a great family!

And my third charter yesterday was with Julie & Tyler from Biloxi. They recently got engaged and Julie wanted to get some "engagement photos" on a sailboat. They brought along their friend Justin who is a professional photographer. The weather was a bit breezy by this time and the seas were a bit rolly. We discussed the option of giving it a try or just rescheduling for a better day. We decided to give it a try. But once we got out of the harbor we realized it just wasn't going to work. So we came back in and they will reschedule for hopefully a much nicer day. So no pictures yet...stay tuned.

My second charter yesterday was with Thomas & Frank who are from Germany and visiting the USA to attend a business meeting in Washington, D.C. They do these meetings every year and they always try to visit some place else in addition to their D.C. meeting. So this year the decided to visit New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Thomas is a sailor back in Germany and has sailed in the Baltic Sea and a sailing vacation off the Croatian Coast. Plus he has a sailing vacation scheduled for Turkey coming up soon. Frank has never sailed before but he definitely got a kick out of seeing the many dolphins that came over to check us out. I used to live in Germany while I was in the US Air Force so I got to practice my very bad German language skills. Great sailing with two great guys!

Summer sailing is still going strong. Three charters scheduled for yesterday. First up was Micca & Pat from Russellville, AR who are down on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to celebrate their Anniversary. Pat had been in touch with me a few times as we tried to figure out a date to sail. Their anniversary was today (Sunday) but the weather looked a bit iffy so he called me on Friday to set up a sailing charter for Sunday. The weather was pretty nice and not too hot for their pre-noon departure. The winds were a bit light so the sailing was slow but the seas were very smooth. We we able to find a few dolphins but was hoping for more. "Peaceful & Relaxing" is what Micca said...which is what I normally say. She beat me to it. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

My daughter Katie has some co-workers from when she worked at the Tampa Zoo come up to visit for a few days. She showed them the Mississippi Aquarium where she works now and this afternoon the weather cooperated enough for us to go out and look for some dolphins while getting in an evening sail. But first we found the resident marina alligator swimming not very far from my slip. Once we got out on the water we had some snacks and then sailed over to where one of the "drones" was out being tested. Pretty cool. Then we sailed back to the shipping channel and found the dolphins. A couple of them swam really close to us for a few minutes. There were also lots of birds out flying around and hunting for fish this evening. Some clouds started building up so we got some early sunset pictures before the sun went behind the clouds. But I think everyone had a great time.

Terie and her daughter Lauren along with her Mom Jo and her Aunts' Cathy & Bev are spending a few days on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to celebrate Terie's, Jo's and Cathy's birthdays. HAPPY BIRTHDAY! She gave me a call on Saturday hoping I might have the sunset charter available but it was booked. But I told her that Sunday was available and she said "Let's Go!". The weather was really nice. Pretty much perfect winds so we had a nice breeze and smooth seas. We found a LOT of dolphins which was very exciting. A few of them came up close to us. And we finished off the trip with a nice sunset. The sun dipped behind some low clouds right at the end but there was nice color and texture. A great family outing!

Shawn, Dennis, Shirley & Mike drove down to the Mississippi Gulf Coast from South Carolina on Thursday. While on their way they gave me a call to see if I was available for a sunset charter on Friday. Turns out I was so they booked it. But apparently Mother Nature wasn't courtesy copied on the email. Stormy weather Friday evening so we shifted to today at 10:00. Weather was very nice but the winds were pretty light. Some slow peacful sailing for about an hour then the winds died for about 30 minutes before shifting to the South and picking back up for some comfortable sailing the last 30 minutes or so. Found a few dolphins. Watched some titanium-dioxide getting unloaded in the port. And did a drive by on the roosting pelicans. Plus a couple of my friends were out on the water today. But mostly just a peaceful Saturday out on the Mississippi Sound.

Jacob went to the US Navy Academy and is now an officer in the US Navy. While at the USNA he was on the sailing team and did a lot of sailing and sailboat racing. Now that he is stationed in Gulfport he is in the process of introducing his wife, Ada, to sailing. So today was the first outing. Beautiful weather and light winds for the first couple of hours. Great way for her to familiar with sailing procedures and terminology. And then the last couple of hours the winds were much better and we had some really nice sailing. Considering Ada was discussing what features she wants in a future sailboat I would say she is pretty smitten with sailing. Plus we saw a few dolphins and lots of pelicans. Great day on the water. And THANK YOU both for your service!
