Floating the Slate River while you’re in Crested Butte has become a must on many visitors’ bucket lists! And this season it is ready to float sooner than usual! 🏄☀️

Here are a few tips to keep in mind if you choose to add it to your adventures:

Use only designated river access points to put in and take out on the river.
• Put-Ins: Slate River Boat Launch (Preferred through July 15), Oh Be Joyful Campground, Gunsight Bridge, River Flats
• Take Out: Slate River Boat Launch or Skyland Bridge

NOTES:

•There is a voluntary No Float period through July 15 to protect the great blue heron habitats along the upper slate river. The preferred put-in is at the designated downtown site on Pyramid Ave.
•Please do not use the rec path bridge.

🚗Carpool as parking is limited.

✌️Respect our neighbors by staying on your vessel.

🐶Leave your dog friends at home.

🤫Listen to nature’s sounds instead of amplified music. Keep in mind the upper Slate from Gunsight Bridge to Rec Path is a quiet float zone due to critical wildlife habitat.

📣Float in groups of 6 or fewer + leave space between groups when launching or let faster boaters through.

🚽Go before you float! Don’t use the river bank as a toilet + pack out all trash.

🤘Rent from one of the awesome SUP rentals in town!

⚠️Know the conditions before heading out. Check the water levels and float at your own risk.

Kebler Pass + Cottonwood Pass are both officially OPEN! 🍃

Now there are more ways to get to the Gunnison Valley for the long weekend festivities!

⚠️ Spring conditions: expect muddy, wet, and possibly snowy conditions. Please drive carefully and be prepared.

📸 Kebler Pass is a scenic byway and we want everyone to be able to utilize it safely. DO NOT STOP in the middle of the road or on blind corners to take photos. Use one of the many pull-offs to capture the beauty of the area.

⛰️ On our side of the pass, County Road 12 drops into a small residential street and bus route with a 15 mph speed limit.

🚲 Share the road with bikers. And if you’re on the side of the road, make sure to keep dogs on a leash.

🐑 There may be livestock on the road and in the area. Use caution and DO NOT pick up or interact with livestock or guardian dogs.
