With the arrival of August today, the start of fall sports is upon us. If you're planning to tryout for a fall sport on August 13 (or August 14 for some teams), here are the dates, time and location for each of our nine fall varsity sports teams.

Last night we posted a trivia question. We thought this question would be a bit tougher than it actually was. A lot of people either knew or guessed the correct answer.

Entering their 70th season this coming winter, South Hagerstown High School Basketball owns an all-time record of 822-726, winning 53% of the 1,548 games played. They have reached 20 or more wins in nine seasons and won 15 or more in 22 seasons. The program has one state championship, 10 state semifinalist finishes, 12 region/district championships, 10 conference championships and, in 1995, boys basketball recieved the Jack Willard Sportsmanship Award from the MPSSAA.

Practices and tryouts for fall sports teams begin two weeks from today on August 13. Make sure in these next two weeks that you have completed all the required paperwork. This includes registering on Arbiter and having a current physical on file. Both need to be taken care of before you can participate with any team.

Athletes who wish to dual sport must get a dual sport form from our athletic director Coach Freeman that needs to be signed by the head coach of both teams.

We've done a ton of research this summer on all our varsity sports programs. There is still plenty to do, but we figured we'd share some of our findings so far in the form of some trivia! This is just for fun and to bring out some of those diehard Rebels!

19 days from today, fall high school athletic teams across the state will begin holding practices and tryouts. Are you ready for August 13? You need to be registered on Arbiter and have a current physical on file before the first day in order to participate.

It’s been brought to our attention that there is a page out there using the school name and logo posting random content.

South Hagerstown Media is the only official school page at this time, other than pages managed by the athletic and band boosters or any sports team pages ran by coaches.

Interested in playing girls soccer this fall? There will be conditioning this week on Wednesday (today) from 12:30-2:30 and on Thursday from 5-7pm. Stop by the practice field between Emma K. Doub and South High to prepare for the season!

The South Hagerstown community mourns the loss of Doug Bachtell. He taught carpentry and career research and development classes at South High up until his retirement about two years ago. Even after retiring, Mr. Bachtell was still around often, filling is as a substitute making people laugh with his witty humor. He was beloved by many of his colleagues and students at South High. Please keep his family in your thoughts during this difficult time.
