We have reached the second lowest minimum sea ice extent (coverage) in the satellite record. Climate change will take bigger action than turning off the light switch and recycling. It takes elected officials implementing policy to curb our emissions, and to reel in big corporate polluters. Support the kids' climate strike. Learn about the Green New Deal. Ask candidates and elected officials to support real climate policies. The future depends on real action.

We have called this year’s Arctic sea ice minimum. Arctic sea ice likely reached its annual minimum extent at 4.15 million square kilometers (1.60 million square miles) on September 18. This year's minimum sea ice extent is effectively tied for 2nd lowest in the satellite record along with 2007 and 2016. Read more: https://nsidc.org/news/newsroom/arctic-sea-ice-minimum-extent-2019.
