Happy National Dog Day to all of our four-legged guests. And especially our Clover, seen here “helping” around our Lancaster property.

August lately in Lancaster looks like this.

Pool days, hydrangeas, my favorite vintage rug, LUCA, stone houses, grapes growing on the vine, and soaking up the last stretch of summer.

Plus the less glamorous side of keeping historic homes beautiful: yet another hardware store run.

These are five expensive investments we’d make again without hesitation:

1. A heated Soake Pools plunge pool - because having a heated saltwater pool you can use year round never gets old.
2. A baby grand player piano - one of those unexpected details that makes a stay feel truly unique. We love the stories from our guests about how this made their stay!
3. A Restoration Hardware canopy bed - because it’s so just pretty and well-made!
4. A Harbor Saunas - we wanted a premium sauna experience. The barrel saunas look like crap after a year or two and this one gets better over time.
5. A Peloton bike - because taking a vacation shouldn’t mean giving up your fitness routine.
