Next week I'm taking a group of 20 to Greece. Twenty people, one ship, six stops: Athens, Rhodes, Hydra, Santorini, Mykonos, Ephesus.

We're spending 2 nights in Athens before we even step on the ship. That wasn't an accident.

I could've had this group fly in and board Celebrity Infinity the same day. Cheaper. Simpler on paper. But if a flight gets delayed or bags go missing, that stress follows you into week one of the trip. That's not how I wanted this group to start.

Instead, we booked 2 nights at the Polis Grand in Athens first. A private tour, a group dinner, and enough open time for people to explore the city on their own before the cruise even starts.

Do you need to book an excursion in Grand Cayman when visiting on a cruise?

It depends on what kind of experience you want.

When you tender into George Town, you’re immediately in a walkable area with shops, restaurants, and local culture.

But Grand Cayman’s best experiences, like Seven Mile Beach and Stingray City, require a short taxi ride or organized excursion.

Is Ocho Rios worth visiting on a cruise?

As a travel advisor visiting Ocho Rios aboard Holland America’s Nieuw Statendam, I always explore each port to see what my clients will actually experience.

This is a port where I recommend booking an excursion to truly experience Jamaica. But if you prefer something more relaxed, it’s a short walk or quick taxi ride into town where you’ll find shopping, local bars, and restaurants.

What happens on embarkation day on Holland America Line?

From the moment you arrive, everything flows seamlessly. Check-in is quick, you walk up the gangway with that first “I’m really here” feeling, and within minutes you’re scanning onboard and officially on vacation.

Do you really have to go to your muster station in person on a Holland America cruise?

Yes, but it’s quick, easy, and it’s required before you can fully enjoy your cruise. Just stop by your assigned muster station after boarding, check in with the crew, and watch the short safety video.

No standing in long lines, no full ship gathering…just a simple check-in so you’re ready to sail safely.

When travel plans change, I’m already working on it! That’s just how we do things at Savvy Travel Group

A client headed to Hawaii missed their connection due to a mechanical delay and got stuck overnight. We secured a hotel stay (and got it covered by the airline) and a new flight…then found out their rental car was supposedly unavailable unless they paid triple.

After some behind-the-scenes advocating (and a backup plan ready just in case), their original reservation was honored at the airport…same price, car waiting when they landed.

They didn’t have to stress. They just had to get to Hawaii. This is the part of travel planning you don’t always see but it matters.
