August 20, 2025, NCDOT has closed NC12 In Dare County between Marc Basnight Bridge and Hatteras Village due to unsafe driving conditions brought on by ocean overwash. Here is a photo of Highway 12 looking south to Hatteras Village after high tide tonight. Updates at drivenc.gov

8/20/2025 8:20 PM: Highway 12 completely submerged north of Hatteras Village, as seen by webcams from NCDOT. The next two high tide cycles will likely bring more severe overwash than what we've seen so far this evening.

NC12 is closed on Hatteras Island from the Marc Basnight Bridge to Hatteras Village, and on Ocracoke Island between the North Ferry Terminal and NPS Pony Pens.
