Special Event: Welcome Home from Iraq

Exactly 12 years ago I arrived back home to Fairbanks around 1100AM local time after spending 6 months in Iraq. When I left, JC was only crawling. I return as he WALKS to me. What an amazing feeling and a great holiday season. Was home for Thanksgiving dinner and then spent Christmas season in PA that year. Can't believe that amount of time has passed by already. JC is now 13 yrs old, he was 1 year and 3 months old at the time of these pics.

DrVents 2: Alaskan Northern Lights

During my tour in AK, the sun wasn't very active; therefore, the Aurora Borealis was relatively quiet. In March of the year we were leaving, a good solar event occurred and provided a nice light display. I took these to the north of Fairbanks and up near Pedro Dome peak. There was something eerie about it and I still believe I heard a faint humming sound. When it's super cold and far from the city...the sounds of nature can be very unique and strange at the same time. I heard that the lights in northern Scandinavia are crazy. Must add that to my bucket list for sure.

DrVentures 3: Denali NP, Alaska

I've been here several times; while I was stationed in Alaska and when the family visited in 2013. So many pictures taken in which they don't do quality justice. The scenery doesn't even seem real at times and what you see in one picture is all climates in one. The vibrant colors are amazing with all shades of green to white snowcapped mountains and everything in between.

There are several options to choose while visiting Denali and we choose 2 of them. The first time was when April (ex-wife) sister visited and we took the coach/bus option that went to the Eielson Visitor Center. That was a 10-hour round trip package. The next time was with April and JC when we visited in 2013 but took the option of using Private Owned Vehicle (POV), well our rental truck, to take on the Auto Road. This event is once per year in the beginning of Sept and it is part of a lottery system. I ended up purchasing someone else's ticket for $100 (costed them $25) but it was the best money I spent. We were able to travel to the end of the road. That was a very long day (12 hrs+) because there is one way in and then back out the same way. But the entire road is dirt and so many stops to take in the scenery.

This will be a permanent memory until the day I die...definitely a place to visit in someone's life.

DrVents 1: Rallycross 2022

This motorsport event was JC and I's first one of it's kind. These drivers are super brave and down right skilled at this type of racing. It is a form of time-trial racing on whom completes a stage in the quickest time. These drivers are sending it through very tight and mostly dirt roads with rocks, pot holes, trees and so many other obstacles. The speeds are insane at over 100 mph in some sections with NO FEAR!

Rally is super big in America but is very well respected in Europe, especially in the Scandanavian region. Some of the best Rally drivers are from Sweden, Norway or Finland. There are several North American events and the one that JC and I went to are in the mountains of western Maine each year called the New England Forest Rally. I accidentally met one of the drivers by buying his BRZ interior off of Facebook in 2020...shout out to Erik Potts Racing.

DrVentures #1: Acadia National Park, Maine

Absolutely stunning location that Jayden and I visited the past 2 years. The coastline is amazing, especially on top of the coastal peaks. We have hiked Beehive, Gorham, Bubble Rock, Dorr and Cadillac Mountains. Some hikes were a bit sketchy but awesome.

Outside of hikes and nature, Bar Habor is a great quaint little town. The first year we venture to the small island when the tide was out...land bridge opens up.

This is a must place to visit. Reach out if you have any questions and I can provide some insights. JC and I camped both years and learning the ropes on so-called "roughing" it a little.

Also, we ate a food truck and got a lobster roll. Wow...so so good. That was JC's first time having lobster and he loved it.

What small business do you visit often? Give them a shout out!!

In these tough times, please patron these businesses to keep their livelihoods going. I do my part and get take out at least once a week in my small town of Haverhill, Massachusetts. I like the Spaziano's Pizzeria in downtown and get my normal cheesesteak hoagie and fries. Great owner with amazing food.
