We are seeing some really big trout this year in the Hiawassee river, looking from our deck. They are stalking brook, rainbow and other trout this year. The stocking for April took place during the first week of the month,, and stocking for May should take place in Fires Creek just down river from us, the second week of May, the 5th to the ninth. And that should set us up for all the summer months. We’re really truly excited for a great fishing year!

Just a hop, skip and a jump from our cottage, and home to one of our favorite barbecue places, we love Hiawassee. And apparently, so does everyone else!

Oh to wake up in the mountains to spring with the dogwoods blooming, birds singing, and the tranquil quiet of a river gurgling and rushing by. Spring is a favorite season here at the cottage.

And while we’re enjoying relaxing we’re also knee deep finalizing a full upgrade of the primary bathroom with a new walk-in shower in sleek new marble, a beautiful updated dreamy blue color palette and even safety grab bars. Come and stay awhile!

The beauty of winter in the mountains is just astonishing. The clear crisp air, bright skies reflecting all that gorgeous snow. It’s perfect to escape to that whispering quiet that comes with snowfall. The wildlife leave tracks and visit our front yard and the neighbors’ most evenings and we sigh with how relaxing it all is to get away in the winter.

We hope the memories you’ve created as you’ve enjoyed the cottage and the river, from the morning mist, starry nights, roaring fires, and making family dinners, to rocking quietly on the porch as dusk darkens the sky, bring you peace and a smile. We wish everyone a wonderful holiday season, the spirit of which we hope lasts well into the new year. We include our friends and loved ones throughout the Hayesville community and beyond. We hope to see you again in 2025. Our cottage family brings us so much joy and we hope we share a little in return.

We are ringing in Christmas in style at the cottage with a full tree decorated with treasured ornaments that mark generations of love and memories. There are also sweet little decorative snowmen, santas, elves, creatures, fir trees and more for our guests to enjoy while settling in next to a crackling fire throughout the holiday season. Come visit and enjoy!

Skies alight with a rosy warm glow on a cold December evening as we drive into Hayesville on our way to soak in the magic of the cottage. There’s something special about wintertime by the river with the trees craggy outlines, frost on the grass, steam rising from the river, and as ever the sound of the river and wildlife creating a soothing soundtrack to our lives.
