Honoring Dennie Neace…
🇺🇸 Memorial Day Quick Story Series: Honoring Our Heroes
Every day leading up to Memorial Day, we are sharing the story of a local hero who served for our country—so their legacy is never forgotten.
Today, we remember Sergeant Dennie Neace of Perry County, Kentucky.
Sergeant Dennie Neace proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a Light Weapons Infantryman with Company C, 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment of the 1st Cavalry Division.
He began his tour in South Vietnam on February 16, 1967, answering the call to serve during one of the most dangerous conflicts in American history.
On May 31, 1967, Sgt. Neace gave his life in service to his country after coming under hostile small arms fire in the An Qui B**g Son Plain of Quang Tin Province, South Vietnam.
For his bravery and sacrifice, he was awarded honors including the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal.
Today, Sgt. Neace is honored on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., at Panel 21E, Line 24, and rests at Neace Cemetery in Perry County, Kentucky.
His sacrifice stands as a lasting reminder of the courage shown by the men and women from Perry County who gave everything while serving far from the mountains they called home.
A reminder that even small towns gave everything for FREEDOM.
