Hazlehurst exists because of a railroad, and it still carries that origin with quiet pride. In 1870, workers laying the Macon and Brunswick Railroad from both ends met almost exactly in the middle of southeast Georgia. At that meeting point, a depot sprang up, a community formed, and the town was named for Colonel George Hall Hazlehurst, the railroad engineer who directed the line southward from Macon. 🎨 Calling All Local Artists! 📬

Help us showcase the beauty, history, and charm of Jeff Davis County through art!

The Visit Jeff Davis Community Postcard Contest is officially open beginning August 10. We're looking for original artwork that captures what makes our community special. Winning designs will be professionally printed as official Visit Jeff Davis postcards, available for purchase at The Big House Visitor Center and participating retailers throughout the community.

🏆 Two Winners Will Be Selected
• Youth Division
• Adult Division

Each winner will receive:
🎁 A $50 Community Gift Card
🖼️ Their artwork featured on an official Jeff Davis County postcard

📅 Opens: August 10, 2026
📅 Deadline to Submit: September 11, 2026

📍 Entries should be submitted to The Big House (25 E. Coffee Street)
