Liberty Bell Pool, located in FDR State Park in Pine Mountain, Georgia is the state’s largest entirely spring-fed pool. This unique pool holds 500,000 gallons of clear, cold water, averaging between 50-60 degrees. It is fed by natural mountain springs which send fresh water into the pool each day. The cool water offers a refreshing break from Georgia’s summer heat. The name Liberty Bell comes from the bell shape of the pool, which features stonework dating back to the late 1930s. The pool was was built using local Hollis Quartzite stone. It is open seasonally, from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Visitors can also enjoy the rest of F.D.R. State Park, including the famous Dowdell’s K**b. The park features more than 40 miles of trails, small waterfalls, a lake for fishing, camp sites, cottages, and horseback riding.

The Eurostar is a high-speed passenger train service that connects the United Kingdom with mainland Europe, allowing passengers to travel directly from city centers in London to Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, and beyond without taking a flight. The train's top speed reaches over 180 mph. It's famous for its route through the Channel Tunnel, sometimes referred to as The Chunnel. Eurostar offers 3 travel classes: Standard, Standard Premier, and Business Premier. Advance booking is recommended due to high demand and multiple security and passport checks at the terminals.

If you're planning a trip anywhere in the United Kingdom, you must first obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). The ETA acts as a pre-clearance which is tied to your passport, allowing you to board your flight or other transport and pass through border control more smoothly. The ETA application process is completed online through the UK ETA Government Portal. The process takes approximately 15-20 minutes and requires scanning your passport and taking a picture of yourself. The cost is around $20. The ETA is good for 2 years or until your passport expires, allowing for multiple visits.

Another of our visits while in London was to St. Paul's Cathedral, designed by Sir Christopher Wren and completed in 1710. It has served as a center of British national life, hosting royal weddings, jubilee celebrations, state funerals, and major thanksgiving services. The current cathedral was built to replace the "Old St Paul's," which was destroyed in the Great London Fire. Some of the most notable events held at the Cathedral include the state funeral of Sir Winston Churchill, the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana, the Golden and Diamond Jubilees of Queen Elizabeth II, the funeral of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, and the Platinum Jubilee National Service of Thanksgiving for Queen Elizabeth. It remains the most visited religious site in the UK.

Another of the historic landmarks we visited was the Tower of London, a castle located on the River Thames. It was originally built by William the Conqueror as a fortress and royal palace. Over time it became a symbol of royal power, a notorious prison, and a treasury. It includes the oldest part, the White Tower, and has served as an armory, mint, and royal menagerie. Today it houses the Crown Jewels (no photos allowed) and is guarded by Yeoman Warders called Beefeaters. These men and women must have served in some branch of the British military for a minimum of 22 years before being selected for the position, which is considered a great honor. They not only work but also live at the Tower complex.

We finished our time in London with a tour of Westminster Abbey, dinner at the Bountiful Cow, and a live show on the west end. Westminster Abbey is one of London's most famous historical landmarks where some of Britain's most notable people are buried or commemorated. It is also the site of most of the royal weddings and coronations. The Bountiful Cow is an independent, family owned restaurant that offers a full menu of tasty food (specializing in beef) in a friendly, cozy, and enjoyable atmosphere. Mamma Mia, our evening finale, was a fabulous show at the Novello Theatre and a perfect ending to our trip! ❤️

Monday we rode the London Eye which stands almost 443 feet in height, providing a 360° view of London's most impressive sights. A full rotation takes about 30 minutes, which is just the right amount of time to see everything. Afterwards we enjoyed a leisurely afternoon cruise along the Thames River which included hot tea, sandwiches, and a variety of sweets with scenic views on the riverbank.

We rode the Eurostar from Paris to London (180 mph), checked in to the Welbeck Hotel, then saw the limited time display of the Queen's Wardrobe. Sunday we enjoyed a tour which included a partial changing of the guard and a parade featuring the national anthem and presentation of colors (called "trouping"). We took the Hop On Hop Off through the city, with a stop at Harrods for shopping and dessert in their cafe. We saw some beautiful sights on the bus tour - several that we'll see more closely over the next couple of days!

There's nothing like seeing the Eiffel Tower in person. It's amazing during the day but absolutely spectacular at night! We enjoyed a trip to the top for a breathtaking view and then had a delicious lunch at Madame Brasseire, a restaurant located in the Tower. We also took a fabulous dinner cruise on the Seine aboard the Bateaux Parisiens. The cruise concluded just as the twinkling of the Tower lights began. It was an experience you have to see to believe! ❤️

Well it may not have been the smoothest beginning - weather delays, missing one flight completely, sitting in the wrong terminal for hours, our party getting split onto separate flights, our plane returning to the gate before departure because of a sick passenger, luggage nearly coming down on our head, one suitcase coming a day & a half later on an entirely different flight, then missing our first tours because of our late arrival - but we FINALLY made it! We spent our first evening relaxing & unwinding at a cute outdoor cafe with the sweetest little waitress, then crashed when we got to the room! Yesterday was nonstop - the Louvre, Sainte-Chapelle, Notre Dame, and a riverboat lunch cruise on the Seine. The city is beautiful, everyone here has been extremely friendly, and the sights have been amazing!
