A much different post for us today.
Three years ago I was scrolling through social media and I stumbled upon a You Tuber who writes and takes video's of their Camino de Santiago pilgrimages. I was so intrigued with this, that I began planning my own Camino.
After much research I chose to walk the Camino de Santiago Portuguese Coastal Route from Porto, Portugal to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. I began on Sunday, June 7th and finished on Father's Day, June 21st.
My Camino started as a solo pilgrimage and to walk in honor of Kirsten. I created cards of her which I would leave at various holy and spiritual places along The Way...
I recently returned home and it was truly an amazing and life changing experience. Much more than I ever expected. What I initially thought my Camino would be, turned out to be very different in reality.
I'm a little shocked it's over and it's very strange to be back home. It feels awkward not getting ready each morning to walk to the next village.
I'm already planning my next Camino!
Camino Stats:
15 Days of walking
285.63 Kilometers
178 Miles (approx)
491,672 Steps
53 Stamps (collected on my Camino Passport)
500+ Pilgrims met along the way
100+ Camino Friends who I walked with, shared a meal with or enjoyed a beer or glass of wine with
26 People who became my Camino Family
11 lb Backpack which I carried every day
10 Day's walking in my hiking shoes (had to ditch them due to a huge blister on the top of my big toe)
5 Blisters on my left foot (one for each toe)
5 Day's walking in my Teva's (a much better choice than the hiking shoes!)
6 Ibuprofen tables every day; sometimes more!
3 lbs lost along the way
2 beers or glasses of wine each day, unless a bottle of wine came with dinner! Hence why I only lost 3 lbs!!! and...
1 Walking stick & 1 pair of gifted walking poles
I met some of the most incredible people along my pilgrimage. As they say on the Camino, you may walk alone, but you are never really alone.
Here's a small sample of who I met along the way...
