Wine Road, Northern Sonoma County

Wine Road, Northern Sonoma County Wine Road is the best source for discovering Northern Sonoma County’s exceptional wine country.
(360)

Established in 1976, Wine Road is made up of 135 wineries and 30 lodgings from the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys. Founded in 1976, Wine Road is an association of wineries and lodgings in the Alexander, Dry Creek, and Russian River Valleys of Northern Sonoma County. From its modest beginning as an organization of nine wineries, it has grown into a spirited constellation of 200 wine

ries and 50 lodgings. It’s not actually a “road” in the sense of a single, continuous stretch of paved highway, but more of a treasure map to the many jewels nestled among the hills and valleys of a region where fresh air, fine wine and exquisite cuisine await those who traverse it. The Wine Road coordinates three annual wine tasting events for visitors: Wine & Food Affair, Winter WINELand and Barrel Tasting Weekend. Current information on all of our member wineries and lodgings can be found on the Wine Road website, where you can also request a FREE Wine Road map.

50 Years Along the Wine Road: Porter Creek Vineyards🍷

Before Russian River Valley became one of the world's most celebrated Pinot Noir regions, there were a handful of growers willing to take a chance on it.

Porter Creek founder George Davis was one of them.

When he purchased the property in 1978, Pinot Noir wasn't the obvious choice. In fact, advisors encouraged him to plant more Chardonnay and less Pinot Noir. Instead, he trusted the land and stayed the course.

Today, some of those original vines are still producing, and the winery continues under the leadership of his son, Alex Davis, whose winemaking journey took him from Burgundy to the Rhône Valley and back home to Russian River Valley.

A longtime part of the Wine Road community, Porter Creek remains committed to thoughtful farming, low-intervention winemaking, and wines that reflect a true sense of place.

While the grapes are out in the vineyard doing their thing, many of our wineries are busy inside the winery!

West Wines 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is officially off the bottling line. They've filled, corked, and sealed these beauties, and now the bottles are laid to rest for a well-deserved nap.

It’s the final step in a vintage that's built for patience. Good things come to those who wait, right? 😉

Thanks for sharing, West Wines!

After 26 incredible years, the heart and soul of the Wine Road, our beloved Executive Director Beth Costa, is hanging up her hat and retiring! 🥂 We truly wouldn't be where we are today without our fearless "ringleader."

Beth’s list of achievements is endless. From raising over $420,000 for the Redwood Empire Food Bank to guiding our community through wildfires, floods, and a global pandemic, it's due to her unwavering spirit, we are still standing strong today.

A true visionary, Beth wasn't afraid to dream big. Whether an idea could be brought to life in a week or needed a year to blossom, she fearlessly made it happen. She championed our expansion into social media and launched our podcast before podcasts were even cool! A pioneer in every sense, she took the Sonoma wine story across the country, keeping the Wine Road family connected from Healdsburg to San Francisco to Cleveland to New York.

We will miss her warmth and leadership more than words can say, but we’re so thrilled she gets to trade her computer screen for more time with family.

Please join us in the comments to raise a glass and wish Beth a happy, well-deserved retirement! 👇❤️

50 Years Along the Wine Road — Merry Edwards Winery

Before the Russian River Valley became one of the most celebrated Pinot Noir regions in the world, Merry Edwards believed in its potential.

Through decades of dedication to single-vineyard wines and a relentless pursuit of quality, she helped define what the region could become, setting a standard that continues to influence winemakers today.

Now retired, her legacy lives on in every bottle, carried forward by a team committed to the same principles: precision, place, and a deep respect for the land.
