Wine Road, Northern Sonoma County

Wine Road, Northern Sonoma County W**e Road is the best source for discovering Northern Sonoma County’s exceptional w**e country.
(354)

Established in 1976, W**e Road is made up of 135 w**eries and 30 lodgings from the Alexander, Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys. Founded in 1976, W**e Road is an association of w**eries and lodgings in the Alexander, Dry Creek, and Russian River Valleys of Northern Sonoma County. From its modest beginning as an organization of nine w**eries, it has grown into a spirited constellation of 200 w**e

ries and 50 lodgings. It’s not actually a “road” in the sense of a single, continuous stretch of paved highway, but more of a treasure map to the many jewels nestled among the hills and valleys of a region where fresh air, fine w**e and exquisite cuisine await those who traverse it. The W**e Road coordinates three annual w**e tasting events for visitors: W**e & Food Affair, Winter WINELand and Barrel Tasting Weekend. Current information on all of our member w**eries and lodgings can be found on the W**e Road website, where you can also request a FREE W**e Road map.

50 Years Along the W**e Road

What happens when the ancient art of w**emaking meets an equally ancient vessel?

At Amphora W**ery, that's not a hypothetical question.

Since 1997, owner and w**emaker Rick Hutchinson has been crafting small lots of w**es from Dry Creek Valley and beyond, always with an eye toward balance and letting the grape and vineyard show through.

And then there are the amphorae. Amphora is a pioneer of Sonoma County w**emaking in handmade Italian terracotta vessels, using them to ferment and age w**es and explore another dimension of what w**e can express.

The curiosity doesn't stop there. Alongside familiar varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, you'll find w**es like Aglianico and Sagrantino among 12+ varieties to discover.

Small lots, an artistic spirit and a willingness to do things a little differently—that's Amphora.

50 Years Along the W**e Road

Before John and Terri Balletto were making w**e, they were growing vegetables.

Farming has been part of the Balletto family story for nearly five decades, and when they began transitioning some of their land to w**e grapes in the 1990s, that farmer-first mentality came with them. In 2001, they kept some of their own Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and produced the first w**es under the Balletto name.

Today, Balletto farms more than 700 acres of vineyards throughout the Russian River Valley, yet only the top 10% of that fruit is selected for Balletto w**es. It's an estate-grown, estate-bottled approach that gives the family control from vineyard to glass.

And taking care of those vineyards means thinking beyond the next vintage. From certified sustainable farming and habitat conservation to recycled water, composting and solar power, stewardship is woven into how the Balletto family farms.

From vegetables to vineyards to w**e, one thing hasn't changed: they're farmers first.

Happy National Dog Day to some of the hardest-working members of W**e Road w**e country and their friends. 🐾🍷

They greet guests, patrol the vineyards, supervise the tasting room and, occasionally, nap on the job.

50 Years Along the W**e Road

Some vines are worth holding onto.

At Bella Vineyards and W**e Caves, century-old vines are part of a story centered around small-lot Zinfandel, family, and a deep appreciation for the vineyards of Dry Creek Valley.

More than 70% of the grapes Bella uses are grown in its own vineyards, with the rest coming from a small group of growers who share that commitment to preserving exceptional vineyard sites. The result? Distinctive w**es that celebrate the place they came from.

And then there's the other unmistakable part of Bella: the caves.

Head underground for a tasting among the barrels, settle in on the lawn overlooking the valley, or venture into the vineyards to see where it all begins.

A longtime part of the W**e Road community and a West Dry Creek stop where old vines, Zinfandel and a sense of adventure all come together.
