National Public Safety Telecommunications Week 2026
This week, we proudly recognize the Hearne Police Department Dispatchers-the calm voices, steady hands, and unseen heroes who keep our community safe every single day.
Our team maybe small, but their impact is enormous. Hearne is blessed with four dedicated dispatchers who serve with professionalism, compassion, and heart.
Dispatcher- Lori Woerndel
Dispatcher Woerndel has been with the Hearne Police Department for almost a year.
She shares:
“Almost a year ago, I was blessed with a wonderful opportunity to serve my community again in a way I have a lot of experience with, and to give back to the people who have given my family so much. Bring a telecommunicator brings many challenges and constant change, but that’s what makes it interesting and much more than a job. What makes it fulfilling is being that calm voice in someone’s time of need, or simply a cheerful voice of reassurance.”
When her shift ends she enjoys decompressing outdoors on the farm- where what began as a job has truly become a career and a blessing.
Dispatcher - Scott Bighorse
With nearly 5 years at HPD, Dispatcher Bighorse brings experience, heart, and a deep commitment to serving the community.
He shares:
“What began as a job has turned into both a career and a blessing. Being a telecommunicator brings many challenges, but what makes it fulfilling is getting to help people in both good times and bad.”
To unwind, he enjoys camping, relaxing outdoors, and soaking up the sunshine.
Assistant Supervisor - Ronald Williams
AC Williams has served Hearne for 4 years, 10 months, bringing dedication and compassion to every call.
He says:
“What I like most about being a dispatcher is being that voice at the office they end of the line, helping anyone and everyone in need. I became a dispatcher for the challenge and to make a difference in people lives.”
Outside of work, he enjoys football, fishing, barbecuing, traveling, and being a devoted husband and father to four beautiful children.
Telecommunications Supervisor- D’Keisha Johnson with 16 years of dispatch experience with 4 of those years serving the City of Hearne, CS Johnson leads with strength, purpose and passion.
She shares:
I became a dispatcher to help people. I wasn’t born to be a policewoman or firefighter, so this is my way of joining the battle against violence and misfortune.”
When she is not behind the headset, she enjoys watching her kids play sports and spending quality time with family and friends.
To our dispatchers:
Thank you for being the steady voice in the storm, the first to answer the call, and the ones who guide help to where it’s needed most. Your dedication keeps Hearne safe, and we appreciate you not just this week- but everyday.
Happy National Public Safety Telecommunications week to our Hearne Police Department Dispatchers! You are the heartbeat behind the headset.
