On Thursday, March 12, Sabine County and the City of Hemphill celebrated a major milestone as the community was officially named the "Bass Fishing Capital of Texas".

The new designation marker was placed at the junction of Texas Highway 87 and FM 83 East, directly across from the NASA Memorial — a location rich in local history.

The ceremony drew a strong crowd. Hemphill Mayor Stephen Crowell was present, along with State Representative Joanne Shofner of District 11, who authored the bill that secured this statewide honor.

County and city leaders joined the celebration, along with members of the Sabine County Chamber of Commerce and many proud residents who came out to witness this moment in our county’s story.
