The travel world suffered a big loss this week when we celebrated the well deserved retirement of these 2 amazing women. Both unique, talented and compassionate in their work. I’ve been honored to work with Audrey and Stacy for over 2 decades. They are mentors and dear friends. I am forever grateful they took a chance and invested in me.

Time to time I get questions- someone's friend is now a travel agent.
While I strongly support my fellow agents, there are a few things you need to know before booking through a friend that calls oneself a travel agent.
A couple of questions you might want to ask.
Are they ARC or CLIA certified?
What GDS system do they work in?
Often times these agents arent using GDS. These airline systems allow us direct access to airline inventory- the ability to rebook flights when problems arise.
Are they able to sell all vacations (destinations/ cruise lines/ etc), or just certain ones? They get paid extra to sell you a limited selection.

There are new pyramid schemes popping up, when it comes to travel agents. Think of it as someone clicking on the expedia app for you. They are capable of doing research. But limited selling options and no agent booking support when something goes wrong. Another warning sign is when they don't charge you a research fee. We spend a lot of time, training, and researching- agent knowledge is valuable and worth it. I don't go to a doctor or call an electrician and expect not to pay- I would expect nothing less for such a large investment in traveling and making lifetime memories.

This winter we had the opportunity to visit some Caribbean Islands: Puerto Rico and Jamaica.
Beaches and waves are vastly different (altho you can find similar ones not as accessible). People often ask which is better. Its different for everyone depending on your viewpoint and what you expect on your vacation. Together we can figure out a vacation that you will love.

Went to Cancun this week with a large group. Cancun is often overlooked, because it is perceived as too 'touristy'. Why do you think tourists flock there? Is it the weather, food, warm ocean temps, hospitality? Yes there are some areas in Cancun and along the coast I like to avoid. But there are some great gems in Mexico, so don't scratch it off your list yet. Its a great place for large groups and I know the perfect resorts for any age.

Fred Bursch, owner of Bursch Travel the company I work with, passed away over Christmas. What an honor it was to work under his leadership. Great company to be a part of!

The longtime leader of Bursch Travel died Dec. 23 at home in Alexandria, Minn. He was 70.

Airlines changed their contracts this week. In the event of cancellations/delays, they will no longer reaccommodate you on other airlines. Thats a poor decision. It seems to me... that they have quickly forgotten the taxpayer money that kept them afloat during the pandemic.
Use a travel agent! People are still traveling! I can help you.
