Aloha Bear

Aloha Bear The Traveling Aloha from Hawaii Bear Hello to the World, My name is "Aloha from Hawaii". On May 24th 2014 I start my journey around the world.

To begin let me tell you about myself. I was born from the crafty hands of Sherri Lee. She makes my brothers and sisters by hand in her home on Oahu. Sheri started by making her first "Aloha Bear" now called "Aloha from Hawaii" for her grandson. The delight in his eyes inspired her to create more bears for other Keiki (children). Sherri Lee sews each bear with special love and attention so that yo

u can feel the Spirit of Aloha with every cuddle. My brothers and sister "Aloha from Hawaii" bears love the attention we receive from every hug. He kono kēia iā ʻoe e hele pū me aʻu. (I invite you to join me on my travels exploring the world). Participate with my explorations and enjoy what the world has to offer. Don't be afraid to "Like" and "Share" my adventures. Feel the Aloha and the delight of the world. Much Mahalo - "Aloha from Hawaii" bear.

After leaving up county Maui on State Route 31 Piilani Hwy, you can defiantly see the difference from lush green to dry and barren. Growing up on West Oahu, I am quiet acclimated to the dry landscape.
The views and scenery are astonishing. Blue Ocean, clouds on the mountain and literally no one around... This is Maui! This is HAWAII!

We felt like driving around Maui to Hana. As locals, we started our Hana adventure on Maui state road 37 traveling up country Maui around to Hana. Many visitors miss out on the eco climate changes and stunning views Maui has to offer. Be sure to make your first stop at Ulupalakua and at the Maui Winery.

Ulupalakua has some interesting history not taught in schools. Check out this historic area of Maui.

In 1845 King Kamehameha III leased Honua'ula - an approximately 2000 acre portion of the great district we know as 'Ulupalakua - to L. L. Torbert for the purpose of growing and processing sugar cane. In 1856 Captain James Makee acquired the "Torbert Plantation at Honua'ula" which included the land, sugar mill, buildings, implements, and more than 1600 head of livestock. The Captain moved to Maui and named his new home "Rose Ranch" after his wife Catherine's favorite flower, Maui's Lokelani Rose. The ranch quickly became one of Maui's showplaces - famed for its hospitality as well as its agricultural prowess.

In 1874 King David Kalakaua, the Merrie Monarch and his Queen Kapi'olani first visited Rose Ranch. The King became so frequent a visitor, a cottage was built for him on the property, which still exists today as is the site of winery's tasting room.

In 1883 the last sugar crop was processed at 'Ulupalakua Mill and the area became a working cattle ranch. After changing hands several times over the next eight decades, current owner C. Pardee Erdman purchased the property in 1963 and named it 'Ulupalakua Ranch. - http://tinyurl.com/up-maui-country

After more than two weeks at sea, the crews of Hokulea and Hikianalia are enjoying some time on land. Crew members have spent the past two days in Rangiroa, where they received a warm welcome. They've been recuperating and spending time with school children and other residents of the atoll. KHON2 go…

Today we are experiencing, more like CRAVING the cold refreshing Tasaka Guri Guri located in the Maui Mall. Guri Guri is a cross between ice cream, juice and condensed milk. One scoop or maybe three or four will put a smile on my face. Visiting Maui, make this the second or third must after Tasty Crust.
Jokichi Tasaka first made guri-guri in the early 1900s while living in Japan Jokichi called the dessert goodie-goodie, as in something "good" to eat. His son, Gunji Tasaka came to realize that it was difficult for the older Japanese people to pronounce the name, so he began to call it guri-guri. Gunji Tasaka later migrated to the United States and continued to run the family business.
Tasaka Guri-Guri has operated for over 100 years but has relocated several times through Hawaii. The Tasaka family's business started with a small store on Pu'unene Avenue located in Kahului, Maui. From that small store, the Tasaka family relocated to a nearby city, Wailuku, where they stayed for about 1 year. Tasaka and family then moved to The Old Kahului Shopping Center in Kahului where they stayed for many years. They have been located in Maui Mall, Kahului, since 1973.
The shop is considered a family business. Jokichi's great-granddaughter Gail Tasaka; Gail's sister Cindy Tasaka; Gail and Cindy's cousin Kelly Kohatsu; and Gail's father's friend Tony Ishikawa, work at the store.
Tasaka Guri-Guri was honored in 2009 by the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii for being "one of five local businesses that have stood the test of time and become inspiring stories of success."
The typical ingredients of guri-guri are a mixture of flavored juices, guava juice, and condensed milk. Rumor has it that lemon-lime soda may also be involved. However, Tasaka Guri-Guri's recipe has been kept a secret for over a century. The latest to know the recipe are Gunji Tasaka, who is retired from the shop, and his two daughters, Gail and Cindy Tasaka, who have now taken over the family business
Guri-guri comes in two flavors: pineapple and strawberry - http://tinyurl.com/maui-guriguri
