It is certainly a hot one today! If you need to cool off while waiting on the train, come grab a cold soda from our new machine! It’s right by our lockers! It also has our local Calvin’s 1836 Root Beer in it. If you haven’t tried it, you absolutely should!

Hermann is excited and honored to host the Union Pacific BIG BOY 4014 Steam Locomotive on Monday, July 20, 2026.

The BIG BOY is the largest working steam locomotive in the world, and is touring the country to celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary.

Whistle Stop at the Hermann Station is 2:15 – 2:30 pm. Time may be adjusted, so please watch this page for updates.

Come early, get your parking spot, set up your pop-up tent, put your lawn chairs on Wharf Street and the Riverfront Park, then enjoy our beautiful town! Businesses will be open and ready to greet you with our Hermann Hospitality! More details below.

RIVERFRONT PARK (EAST/UPPER PARK)
*Riverfront Park will be CLOSED for vehicle parking at 9:00 am or earlier. Parking is on a first-come, first serve basis. Come early!
*Commemorative t-shirts for sale on the Riverfront Park.
*Additional restrooms will be located on the Riverfront Park.

RIVERFRONT PARK (WEST/LOWER PARK)
*Boats will be able to access the West/Lower Parking Lot only, until 9:00 am.
*Boats and vehicles must be off the Riverfront by 9:00 am, or they must remain until after the Big Boy has left, pedestrians have left, and the Hermann Police Department deem it is safe to exit.

VISITOR INFORMATION CENTER at HERMANN STATION
*The Hermann Whistle Stop Heritage Foundation will sell cold bottled water inside the station.
*Restrooms inside, with additional restrooms outside.
*30 Minute parking spots closed to allow Hermann Ambulance parking.
*No lawn chairs or additional seating on the Station Plaza/Sidewalk.

WHARF STREET
*The Wharf Street entrance at 1st & Gutenberg by the Red Caboose, will be CLOSED for PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC ONLY at 9:00 am or earlier, when deemed necessary by the Hermann Police Department.
*There will be NO PARKING on Wharf Street. Vehicles may be towed at owner’s expense.
*Pop Up Tents (for protection from sun) will be allowed on the South side of Wharf Street. Limited spaces available, first come, first serve.

PARKING
*Riverfront Park until 9:00 am
*Streets in the downtown.
*5th Street, south of the Amphitheater, including grass area between 5th and Frene Creek.
*Around the Lions Club Soccer Field, 8th & Mozart Streets
*Hermann Hill Event Center, 165 Highway 100 East, 2 gravel parking lots and parking spaces on the hill.
*Bus parking on Gutenberg Street lot, across from Amphitheater

We are so excited that Ollie is joining us tomorrow to see the Big Boy!

Not only is the Big Boy coming to town tomorrow, but so is Ollie! He will be available for pictures from approximately 1:00 pm - 3 pm. He will be located in the Hermann Station, unless it’s cool enough for him to go outside.
Be patient with him tomorrow, he will need to take several breaks to keep cool!

*The Riverfront Park will be closed for PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC ONLY.

HANDICAPPED PARKING
*There are 4 Handicapped Parking Spots and 11 Regular Parking Spots by the Mason Griffith Park Pavilion.
*All 15 of those Parking Spots will be for Handicapped Parking ONLY on a first come, first serve basis, until 8:00 pm.
*Handicapped plates/tags must be displayed.

BOATS (WEST/LOWER PARK)
*Boats will be able to access the West/Lower Parking Lot only, until full.
*Boats must be off the parking lot by 7:00 pm. If not departed by 7:00 pm, you must remain parked until after the fireworks display.

AFTER FIREWORKS DISPLAY
*Boats and vehicles will NOT be allowed to exit the Riverfront Park until AFTER pedestrians have exited, and when the Hermann Police Department determines it is safe.

PRIMITIVE CAMPING
*NO Primitive Camping until after the fireworks display.
