🎃 Before the Pumpkin… There Was a Turnip!

Did you know the very first jack-o'-lanterns weren't pumpkins at all?

🍂 Long ago in Ireland, people told the legend of a clever fellow named Stingy Jack, who was known for playing tricks and getting himself into all sorts of mischief!

According to the old Irish tale, Jack was destined to wander through the night carrying a tiny glowing light inside a hollowed-out turnip.

People began calling him Jack of the Lantern, and over time, the name became Jack-of' the-Lantern!

The Irish began carving funny and frightening faces into turnips and placing lights inside them, hoping to keep wandering spirits away.

When Irish immigrants arrived in America, they discovered something even better for carving… PUMPKINS! 🎃

And that's how a centuries-old Irish tradition became one of our favorite Halloween customs!
