From January 26 to February 2 we will be celebrating the 40th edition of the Jazz Plaza International Festival, a great Jazz festival for the island and the region, which has the participation of virtuoso instrumentalists of this genre every year. Past editions have been starred by top figures such as: the legendary Dizzy Gillespie (USA), Herbie Hancock (USA), Roy Hargrove (USA), Dave Valentin (USA), Tete Montoliu (Spain), Michel Camilo (Dominican Republic), Steve Turrey (USA), Yosvany Hidalgo (Puerto Rico), Pedrito Martínez (Cuba) and this will not be the exception, it will also have renowned international and patio artists that we will be able to enjoy in the more than 200 concerts and presentations that will take place in the appointment.
This event is a great party, where Jazz and native genres of our island such as rumba, son, danzón and popular dance music coexist, achieving a delicious musical fusion. Jazz is also connected with other artistic manifestations such as ballet, contemporary dance and visual arts. Pictorial and photographic exhibitions will be held, being the protagonist of the image of the festival this year, a work of the teacher and National Prize for Plastic Arts Zaida del Río.
The guest artists, in addition to their concerts, develop master classes and conferences, which also makes the Jazz Plaza International Festival a training center for future generations of jazz musicians and musicians in general. More than 100 international artists have already requested their programming at the event, as well as in a special way, Cuban musicians will show off their virtuosity in large tribute concerts and album presentations. Important events in the history of jazz and Cuban culture will be celebrated, such as: the 110th anniversary of the birth of Chano Pozo and Billie Holiday, the 50th anniversary of Irakere, the 50th anniversary of the death of Duke Ellington, the 105th birthday of Charlie Parker, and the 80th anniversary of the Cuban jazz and cultural culture such as: the 110th anniversary of the birth of Chano Pozo and Billie Holiday, the 50th anniversary of Irakere, the 50th anniversary of the death of Duke Ellington, the 105th birthday of Charlie Parker, and the 80th birthday of Frank Fernández.

The festival maintains its projection from Havana to Santiago, so that, in the period of the fes almost 20 venues will host different styles of jazz. A great diversity of formats and sounds typical of jazz, from its most traditional expression to the fusion with the best of Cuban music and a great variety of musical languages from around the world will fill the island from Havana to Santiago in this period. Among the most relevant concerts that we will have in Havana are:
• Teatro Nacional Sala Avellaneda: Concert with the National Symphony Orchestra, Harold López-Nussa, Pedrito Martínez Trio. With Michael Lee and Antonio Sánchez, John Cleary (New Orleans), Closing of the Jazz Plaza 40 Festival with Roberto Fonseca.
• Teatro Nacional Sala Covarrubias: Ernán López-Nussa, Rembrandt Trio, Bas Van Lier (Trio)/ Peter Beets (Trio or Quartet) / Vernon Chatlein (Curaçao) Percussion (Holland), Renato Borguetti. (BRAZIL) with Rodrigo Sosa
• MARTÍ THEATER: Fabio Torres with the Havana Chamber Orchestra. Dir. Daiana García
• Karl Marx Theater: La Colmenita Show - Tribute to Irakere, Concert by Nachito Herrera and students of the Art Schools.
• Bellas Artes: Hermanos Abreu - Release of debut album
