Fayetteville is getting a creative boost this winter with the launch of Fayetteville Creates, a new town-wide artist residency program kicking off in January 2026. The program invites artists from all disciplines—painters, photographers, writers, musicians, textile and culinary creatives, and more—to live, work, and share their craft in the heart of the New River Gorge.

The month-long winter residency will transform local vacation rentals into creative spaces where artists can draw inspiration from the natural beauty and spirit of Fayetteville, WV. In return, residents will host public events, pop-ups, or workshops that bring fresh energy to the town during the off-season.

This is more than just a residency—it’s a community-powered arts initiative that celebrates Appalachian culture, outdoor beauty, and creative connection. It’s a new way for Fayetteville to shine during the slower season and build a lasting identity as an arts destination.

- Residency Dates: January 1–31, 2026

- Application Deadline: October 31, 2025

- Open To: Visiting and local artists of all disciplines

- Community Involvement: Artists will lead public workshops, pop-ups, or events during their stay that are open to the community

- Includes: Private lodging, local guide, hosted meetups, final community celebration

Why It Matters:

- For the Community: Free and low-cost workshops, youth art events, and public art installations will bring creativity to the streets, shops, and public spaces of Fayetteville.

- For Local Artists: A unique opportunity to collaborate with visiting creatives and gain professional connections—all while sharing the culture and spirit of Appalachia.

- For Local Businesses: Participation offers increased off-season foot traffic, promotional exposure, and the chance to host or support events, classes, or artists.

- For Vacation Rental Owners: A meaningful way to support the arts by donating a one-month stay to an artist—with recognition, a cleaning stipend, and possible tax benefits.
