This cozy cottage is located at 35 Azalea Circle, Highlands North Carolina. We are situated only three miles from downtown.

Built in the 1960’s, the Hideaway continues to feature the natural untouched beauty of natural pine throughout the home. Nestled on the side of a hill and across the lane from Lake Sequoyah, the Hideaway offers a small dock and jon boat with trolling motor are available for your enjoyment. The 1500 square foot cabin consist of three bedrooms (two with queen beds and one with twin beds); three and

one half baths; a cozy den with wood burning fireplace, a small kitchen equipped with all of your needs; dining room with seating for six and a washer and dryer (downstairs). One of the greatest features of the Highlands Hideaway is the front porch. The porch offers a great atmosphere for socializing, relaxing or connecting with nature from a comfortable sofa or rocking chair. Additionally an outside dining table is available with a gas grill. The small property does offer ample parking. It is only steps away from the dock on Lake Sequoyah and a short walk to On the Veranda restaurant. No Smoking

There is a minimum three night stay at a rate of $400 per night plus applicable cleaning fee. Check in begins at 4:00pm on Sunday and a checkout time is at 11:00am. Weekly rental for a six night stay will be $2,200 rental fee and $175.00 cleaning fee. The total for the six night stay is $2,375. Please contact 912-536-7725 for additional information and booking.

Charles Davy Wells died at the age of 72, Wednesday, March 12, 2025 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, Georgia.

Davy was born to William Bowie and Florrie Evans Wells, who predeceased him, and lived in Screven County all his life. He grew up farming and ran a successful farming operation for over 30 years. He was named Conservation Man of the Year in 1994.

Later in his career, Davy was a broker with Kennedy Realty in Statesboro. He was a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. Locally, Davy was a member of the Screven County Planning and Zoning Board and the Screven County Industrial Development Authority.

He was a member of Sylvania First Methodist Church where over the years he served as Chairman of the Missions Committee, Chairman of the Church Council, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He also cooked and served Tuesday Morning Breakfast to the church youth group for over 30 years.

Davy enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandsons, Jackson and Henry.

Davy is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Davis Wells, a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Christopher and Erin O’Donnell Wells, a daughter, Katheryn Virginia Wells, and his grandsons, Jackson Landry Wells and William Henry Wells, all of Sylvania; a brother and sister-in-law, William Elry and Pam Macomber Wells, of Anderson, South Carolina and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 15, 2025, at eleven o’clock in the morning at Sylvania First Methodist Church. The Reverend Dorsia Atkinson and Reverend Dr. Barry Giddens will officiate.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sylvania First Methodist Church Men’s Sunday School Class and cooks for the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Youth Group.

Visitation will be held following the service at the home of Davy and Mary Evelyn Wells, 364 Knoblock Road, Sylvania, Georgia.

James “Jim” Lewis Aaron, III, 80, of Clyo, GA, passed away at East Georgia Regional Medical Center on Sunday, March 9, 2025.

Jim was born in Savannah, GA, on June 26, 1944, to James Lewis Aaron, Jr., and Carolyn Pennigton. Jim served in the United States Air Force and was stationed on Pope Air Force Base and served in Vietnam. After his service he worked as a police officer for the City of Savannah, Tybee Island and also for the City Sylvania. He enjoyed having milkshakes and fried chicken, route sells (especially a nice utility van), and woodworking. He was a great cook and loved hosting and had always dreamed of opening a bakery with his daughter. Most of all, Jim loved his family. He was a member of Believers Church in Sylvania.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Aaron; children, Celeste Sweet, Brandy (Timmy) Carroll, James Lewis (Sue) Aaron, IV., Ashley (Karen) Corbin, John (Katie) Aaron, Ben Aaron, and Matthew (Jodi) Aaron; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and by his sisters, Patricia (Paul) Beasley and Sandra (Howard) Thrasher; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2025 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Joiner Anderson Screven with Pastor Scott Stringer officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.

Interment will follow at the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ashley Corbin, Timmy Carroll, Austin Haven Brown, Charlie Heindel, Charlie Milton, and Kris Lewis.

Paul Beasley will be an honorary pallbearer.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/donate/.
