September 26 is a good day to be in Highlands.

The Highlands Heritage Jamboree is a free family event with live music all afternoon. The lineup includes the Highlands Bagpipers, the U.S. Fleet Forces Navy Band Four-Star Edition, the Foxfire Boys and the Darren Nicholson Band.

There will also be apple bobbing, axe throwing, moonshine tasting and barbecue, all at Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park.

In downtown Highlands, The Bascom: A Center for the Visual Arts welcomes visitors across a covered bridge and onto a pastoral six-acre campus that holds galleries, art classes, and a working ceramics studio.

Offerings include free exhibitions across the Bunzl, Thompson, and Joel galleries, pottery classes in the Studio Barn, painting and drawing workshops for adults and youth, and The Bascom Shop, which offers pottery, jewelry, and fine art from more than 200 regional and local artists each year.

Make The Bascom your stop for a quiet morning in the galleries, a family afternoon exploring the sculpture trail, or a hands-on class at the wheel.

Special events fill the calendar throughout the year, including the 16th Annual Dazzling Dahlia Festival, September 10–12. Join in the fun by visiting during the festival, when dahlia displays and juried artwork take over the grounds.
