by Confederate Gen. Johnston in April 1865 and an 18th and 19th century medicinal and herbal garden. The Visitor's Center is FREE and open to the public!

Billy Strayhorn was a legendary jazz composer and pianist, best known for his collaboration with Duke Ellington. Strayhorn spent part of his early childhood right here in Hillsborough and we could not be prouder. Today is the anniversary of his death, May 31st 1967. We honor and celebrate Billy Strayhorn today and every day.

One of the coolest things about the town of Hillsborough is our Riverwalk. It’s an amazing place to spend some time in nature… but did you know it also connects downtown to West Hillsborough?
