Summers County, you’re invited.

A Community Conversation with Tom Barkin | Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond

On Tuesday, September 1, we have a unique opportunity to welcome Tom Barkin, President & CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, to Hinton for a community conversation about today’s economy and the opportunities and challenges facing rural communities.

But this evening isn’t just about hearing from Tom, it’s an opportunity for him to hear from us!

The Richmond Fed serves West Virginia as part of its Fifth District, and conversations like this help provide a better understanding of what is happening in communities like ours, from small businesses and workforce challenges to growth, opportunity, and the realities of living and working in rural Appalachia.

Whether you’re a business owner, educator, nonprofit leader, elected official, or simply someone who cares about Summers County, you are invited to be part of the conversation.

More than 250 years of history are waiting inside the Graham House.

Built by Colonel James Graham between 1770 and 1772, the Graham House in Lowell is one of the oldest and most historic homes in West Virginia. More than a family home, it also served as a frontier fortress for early settlers.

Its history includes the dramatic story of a 1777 Shawnee attack, during which Graham’s 7 year old daughter Elizabeth was taken captive. Colonel Graham spent the next eight years searching for her before eventually bringing her home.

Today, visitors can step inside this remarkable piece of Summers County history and learn more about the Graham family and life on the Virginia frontier.

The Graham House is open for tours:
Saturdays | 11 AM - 5 PM
Sundays | 1 - 5 PM

The Graham House is also available as a dining facility for reunions, receptions, meetings and other gatherings.

And mark your calendar for the annual Chili Dinner on September 26! Event Details: https://www.facebook.com/share/19DFjo8Pjn/
