The final round of what has been a fantastic trip has taken us to Turnberry, to play the Ailsa course.
Since last hosting The Open Championship in 2009 the course has undergone major changes, and it is surely only a matter of time before they once again bring the oldest championship in golf back to this part of the world.
The promised heavy rain never materialised and so we were able to enjoy Turnberry to the full. Our caddies had their own side bets going on within the groups, which added to the atmosphere and competition on the day. A great lunch in "The Duel in the Sun" followed, and after getting our second wind we headed out again to play the King Robert the Bruce course, which is also on the property.

Our penultimate round of the trip took us to the historic Prestwick Golf Club. Host of the very first Open Championship in 1860, and a further 23 times up until 1925. They also boast the oldest hole in championship golf, the 17th hole named "Alps".
A top quality golf course located on the Ayrshire coast, and one you should play when visiting the area.
Four top class caddies added the final touch to an unforgettable experience, before we moved on to the Scottish Cup quarter final soccer match, between Kilmarnock and St. Mirren.

After a good night's rest after traveling and playing golf, we next visited last year's Open Championship venue at Royal Troon.
A very proud and traditional club, which is refreshing to see in the modern game.
With an equal mix of six quirky, six difficult and six playable holes, Royal Troon is up there with the best of Open Championship venues. Our knowledgeable caddies certainly added to the experience and the weather stayed dry, although we did have a very strong wind to deal with.

After an overnight flight from New York and some time walking around Edinburgh, we headed over to the west coast of Scotland for lunch and golf at Western Gailes.
Noted by many as the second toughest golf course in Scotland (after Carnoustie), it was a tough start to the trip, especially with a strong wind blowing throughout. We finished just before dark, and headed back to the excellent Marine Hotel in Troon for drinks and dinner.

After lunch overlooking the 18th Green at Royal Troon, we headed over to Dundonald Links for our 5th and final round in two and a half days !
Having originally opened in 1911 it had to close soon after whilst World War I took place, but then prospered in the 1920's and 30's before again closing in 1940 as the military commandeered the land during WW II. The army would occupy it until the 1960's and then it lay empty until 2003 when the course and clubhouse we now know brought this links back to life.

Our last day of golf once again consists of 36 holes, with Royal Troon up first.
Founded nearly 150 years ago in 1878, this is a very traditional golf club.
Back in the beginning it only consisted of five holes, not the championship layout it now boasts. It has now hosted The Open Championship on ten occasions, most recently in 2024 when Xander Schauffele prevailed. They also hosted the Women's event in 2020, with Germany's Sophia Popov the winning golfer.
