DO:
✔ Communicate your budget honestly upfront. It helps your agent build the right trip, not just any trip.
✔ Get travel insurance on every trip, every time.
✔ Trust the process - your agent has done this before.
DON’T:
✖ Ask an agent to price out your entire trip and then book it yourself - our time isn’t a free research service.
✖ Take a custom itinerary we built for you and shop it around for a better price.
✖ File a credit card dispute because you didn’t enjoy your trip. That money comes directly out of your agent’s pocket.
✖ Expect 24/7 availability before you even travel - we have lives too!

If your top priority is rock-bottom prices, book it yourself. If you’re looking for a convenient experience and seamless journey, with full customization and support, work with an advisor.

You wouldn’t expect a BMW on a Kia budget. Don’t expect a bespoke trip on a DIY budget either.

Hiring a travel advisor shouldn’t feel like guesswork.

But most people don’t know what to ask…so they end up choosing based on proximity, price or simply the first person they speak to, instead of finding an agent who is the right fit.

The truth is, not all advisors work the same way.
Different specialties, different service levels, different communication styles.

Asking the right questions upfront sets the tone for the entire experience—and helps ensure you’re working with someone who actually matches how you like to travel.

04/24/2026

asking a travel agent for help and then booking the trip yourself is like asking a chef to plan your entire menu, taste-test every dish, and write out the recipes — then deciding to cook it yourself.

we don’t mind the questions. we mind the part where our time, expertise, and research just... disappear into your booking confirmation email.

work with your agent, not around them. 🙄

One of the biggest misconceptions in this industry:

“Not all agents charge fees, so why should I pay for something I can get for free?”

Because they’re often not offering the same service.

Agents who specialize in cruises and all-inclusives are earning commissions from the supplier - so they don’t need to charge planning fees.

Agents who specialize in custom, multi-destination trips? That work isn’t plug-and-play. It takes time, strategy, and expertise—so fees are part of the model.

If you’re planning a complex European trip, choosing someone who primarily books Caribbean resorts just to avoid a fee isn’t the flex you think it is and it may not get you the outcome you want.

This isn’t about who’s cheaper, it’s about who’s the right fit.

By magic. JK the truth is…

There are two ways travel agents get paid (after our clients travel): commissions and fees.

for commission-based bookings like hotels and cruises, the price is the same whether you book it yourself or through an agent. the commission is already baked in. so when you book direct, you’re not saving money. you’re just choosing to pay a corporate conglomerate a little extra instead of supporting a small business.

for fee-based services, like airfare (which is NOT commissionable), you’re paying for time, expertise, and support. and before you question it, people pay ticketmaster $14.99 a ticket without blinking but a $50 booking fee for hours of actual human support suddenly needs justification?

If you’re planning to book everything yourself, that’s fine. but it’s not fair to ask an agent to do the work too.

This is a service. and like any service, it has value.

spoiler: we never really went anywhere.

the old version of this job — booking the things you couldn’t book yourself is basically extinct outside of corporate travel. today’s travel agents are planners, designers, advisors, and concierges.

we research. we travel to vet destinations ourselves. we map out every detail, know when to splurge and where to save, and stay on call before AND during your trip.

And unlike ChatGPT, you can call us when things go sideways.

04/19/2026

Can you do it for less?
Sure.

But a week’s vacation to practically anywhere will cost over $6K per couple, and that’s just the flights and accommodations! If you add on the things that make it enjoyable — like food, transportation, and activities —expect to pay twice that.

Don’t get us wrong, travel is worth every penny.

But planning with real numbers eliminates frustration and leads to better outcomes. Trust us. We literally do this for a living. 😉

This is the biggest disconnect I see.

Clients want a beautiful, well-located, boutique hotel experience… but with a budget that reflects a basic stay.

Those two things don’t match.

If you travel “bougie-on-a-budget,” expect hotels to average around $400/night—and to make up a significant portion of your overall trip cost.

Flights didn’t suddenly spike—people just remember the outliers.
If you’re flying to Europe in peak season, expect $1,200–$1,800 for economy.

Can you find cheaper? Sure.

But that usually means flexibility, compromises, or luck.

If your budget is still based on what Europe cost in 2022, this one’s for you.

If you’re longing for the days when the USD was equal to the Euro, it might surprise you to hear that happened exactly once in the past 24 years - in early September of 2022. Today’s exchange rate is not high - it’s normal.

be honest, what did you think a week in europe should cost? drop it below. 👇
